Suggestions for New Song to Learn?

Hi all. I've run dry on finding something new to learn. I'm looking for songs that sound good fingerpicking without singing but do have lyrics. I love the old time stuff (Ms. John Hurt, Rev. G. Davis etc.) and it's hard to find songs that are interesting on just the guitar and don't all sound the same.

Here are the songs I love to play (just to give you a better idea of what I like). I'd be happy to share my tabs with anyone interested:

Stagger Lee - Mississippi J. Hurt and Taj Mahal versions
Fishin' Blues - Taj Mahal
Sittin' On Top of the World - Doc Watson
Coffee Blues - M.J.H.
One Dime Blues - Etta Baker
Dayton Ohio 1903 - Randy Newman
Angel From Montgomery - John Prine
Hesitation Blues - Rev. Gary Davis
Deliah - David Bromberg
'Lectric Chair Blues - David Bromberg
and of course Freight Train - E. Cotton

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike,

Well I jump at any opportunity to champion the music of Dave Evans :) In terms of interesting instrumentals he's the uncrowned king, in my opinion. Some of the tunes have a very bluesy feel whilst others have a celtic tinge, and many are obscure fusions between different genres. Some don't even seem to adhere to a genre I would recognise.

Listen to "Insanity Rag", "Steppenwolf" and "Grey Hills" on the Myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/daveevansguitarist

Or for one of his trickiest tunes, watch this clip of him: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqTLkgImAdU

I have a couple tabs, if interested - All of them are available on Stefan Grossman's website I believe. This stuff has kept me entertained and challenged beyond my wildest dreams for a couple years now.

Sean
