Round Peak Build for Tom
This has been going on for some time, and Tom has been very patient, but I thought perhaps I would show a little of what is developing.
The body is persimmon and the top is European spruce. The neck is curly walnut and there is a very nice inlay on the peghead and fingerboard. Tom wanted a segmented rosette with shadow lines and a mosaic wood internal part. (What ever you call that). The following shots show the sequence of that development. I think they are self explanatory but ask any questions that may occur. https://photos.smugmug.com/Persimmon..._103209-XL.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/Persimmon..._141844-X2.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/Persimmon..._144926-X2.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/Persimmon..._153543-X2.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/Persimmon..._155542-X2.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/Persimmon..._161148-X2.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/Persimmon..._114523-X2.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/Persimmon..._140510-X2.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/Persimmon..._140657-X2.jpg |
Looks like a great start--the rosette looks awesome!
Any pics of the persimmon that you can share with us? :) |

John,
I’m so excited you are finally building a persimmon guitar! I assume it is the set you were threatening to use 6 months ago? Hurray for weird wood! I am really curious if it performs like other ebony, and hoping it starts a trend. Good for you, Tom! Jamie |

I was tempted by it myself, but am already ridiculously over-extended. I am eager to hear how this one turns out.

I Spy Spalted Yard Maple...
Sure looks like some more of John's Spalted yard Maple in that rosette.
This will be a stunner, no doubt Congratulations Tom on another brilliant instrument! Carry on gang and remain musical Paul |

Tres cool, bro! Love that rosette. Please have this ready for the next BIG.
Aka, BIGger. |
Love that rosette! It fits really well with that body shape to my eye. Can't wait to see the persimmon.
Best, Jayne |

A little brace work
https://photos.smugmug.com/Persimmon..._092218-XL.jpg
Ready for strumming https://photos.smugmug.com/Persimmon..._160457-XL.jpg Internals ready for the top The carbon fiber braces hold the neck block against tilting under string load. The top will have no support responsibilities and will be able to vibrate more easily in the upper bout. https://photos.smugmug.com/La-conner..._122329-XL.jpg I braced the back with torified spruce capped with rosewood to give the persimmon a crisper tap tone that i felt like it might need. That’s an interesting cure for flabby wood, (which this was not). I once made a chocolate mango guitar the back of which really needed stiffening and tightening. This treatment worked miracles. Anyway, I wanted the persimmon tap tone to be crisper and was able to achieve that using this bracing scheme. |
