Wow. That left me speechless. Good stuff!!

David Eastwood 11-02-2021 05:11 PM

Sorry, I just don’t get it.

While I am impressed by his abilities, he lost me when he went over the top on a classic Gospel tune. The first verse was WOWZER, though!!!

I worked up a version of that. It was tough! I still play it and keep in my repitior. If you search out different videos of it, he seems to change it up every time he performs. I think the one I learned was the one from the record.

He's amazing! Love the finish on that guitar too!;)

Guys, I understand where you are coming from and somewhat agree, but in this instance I enjoyed it and took it as a resounding celebration of the hymn. I see it as celebratory.

I like Tommy Emmanuel, but sometimes you don't have to play everything you know.

A wonderful song and a wonderful player. However, I don't know about you all but that amplified tone isn't great. I've heard better from many players right on this forum.

I don't know when that was recorded, but I've seen him a while back, like just before covid hit, and his tone was far better. Maybe that was an old video?

I like Tommy but this was awful.

TomB'sox 11-03-2021 08:13 PM

Wow, you guys are tough. I loved it. Sorry, I would not find fault in a player 1000 times my ability. His worse would be many times better than my best.

I've heard Tommy called a lot of things, but "awful"? Jeez, this has got to be a first. Hopefully you can post your rendition for us? If that was awful, then I'd love to hear it. Heck, I'd even settle for decent.

I'm usually in the camp of "He's an astounding player but usually goes way overboard" - but I actually really like this, thought it was great and tasteful. And I thought the sound was great, too.

He’s an entertainer and he crafts his songs to please his audiences. Their expectations are typically different from us cork sniffing players.
