That trick worked for me too! Thanks so much.
Before, I had to right click on each broken image link and click "Open in new window" to see each picture one by one. |
Today I put the Bluegrass Tool on the shelf where it will remain for a month or so, at which point I will buff it, assemble, and deliver . . . which takes about ten days, mostly to make sure it is working as advertised.

The D's are both curing now with what should be all their varnish on. In a month or so you will see them again. About that same time I will begin my next guitar, which is commissioned, but not completely defined yet.
Meanwhile, I am missing the two violins I made for Ben McKee, which were not only my best violin efforts so far, but also better (IMO) than any of the other 25 or so violins I own. Most days I manage to play for an hour or more, so I am trying my luck at making another as good as my last. Here are a couple of pictures of the Maple back, one in the carving process, and the other scraped and at final thicknesses. My thanks to Al Carruth, who's scraper you can see in the second picture. I have been scraper adept for 50 years, and Al's scraper is easily the best I've used. While it works well for a guitar's various scraper tasks, it has transformed my violin making as it is an enlightened design in that context. IMO, of course. http://mojoluthier.com/LP20/V10/insidebackcarve.jpg http://mojoluthier.com/LP20/V10/insidebackscraped.jpg |
Looks splendid
Bruce, the Tool looks fantastic on my iPad (safari). All your pics in this thread are working for me! And looking yummy, too!

I've got the two D's on the shelf in the process of curing, and now my 10th violin has joined them.
http://mojoluthier.com/LP21/V10/4coatsfront.jpg http://mojoluthier.com/LP21/V10/4coatsrear.jpg Today I started a new guitar! This will be my FT-15 in MadRose and topped with yet another magnificent German spruce top sourced from Martin Guhl. The guitar will have my hybrid cutaway and the JB/2 fret path, my 1/4" disparity MultiScale. Although the design is Martin inspired, it will have a single ring rosette around a slightly smaller than typical sound hole to offset the side port's influence. The surfaces are too unrefined to photograph well, but I won't let that stop me from trying: http://mojoluthier.com/LP21/309/templatedtop.jpg http://mojoluthier.com/LP21/309/templatedback.jpg |
Finally it's my turn to watch my guitar get built!
This MadRose/German guitar is my first commission from a luthier and I expect it to be the finest I've played. Keep the photos coming! |
Congratulations on your new build, awchiu. You will not be disappointed.

Perfect materials (wow that MadRose is amazing) + luthier in peak form + 50 years of experience = you are going to be blown away. |
Andrew congratulations on selecting a great luthier. I own a number of guitars by Bruce and they never fail to bring a smile to my face when I play them...:)

The new FT-15-C-JB/2 is joined, templated, and has a rosette.

It seems to be time to move over to 2021. This thread still has room to grow, so you CAN post here, but the world is moving on to Sexauer '21 HERE.

It’s like deja vu, all over again! ;)

I live in a land with no guitar luthiers, and all I can play at shops are factory made guitars. I've been relying on people like you to show me the way through your past reviews and testimonials. When I finally receive my Sexauer, my hearing may be forever changed, and my wallet will be emptied. Tad, Thanks for selling me your MadRose back & side woods and giving me so much precious advice! Bruce always says he tries to improve with every build, so my guitar should be Bruce's best ever (at least for a month)! :) |

And you’re right - you may get Bruces best guitar yet - but you won’t know for sure ‘til you get your second! ;-) |
