best acoustic songs to learn

what are the best ten acoustic guitar songs (fingerstyle or flatpick)to learn?

Noflatpick 03-06-2002 12:16 AM

Don't Think Twice, It's Alright - Bob Dylan / Peter, Paul & Mary
Take Me Home Country Roads - John Denver
Dust In The Wind - Kansas

Not necessarily part of the "ten best", just the first three that popped into my mind.:D

Boy it's really hard to pick the 10 "best". I would suppose it would really depend on what styles you like. Some of my favorites are:

Leader of the Band (Fogelberg)
Time in a Bottle (Croce)
Danny's Song (Loggins and Messina)
Something in the Way She Moves (JT)
Classical Gas (Mason Williams)
Anywhere's a Better Place To Be (Chapin)
Father and Son (Cat Stevens)
More Than Words (Extreme)
Landslide (Fleetwood Mac)
Helplessly Hoping (CSNY)

Is that 10 already? I do also LOVE Dust in the Wind. that was the first finger picking song I ever learned. I'm currently enjoying dabbling in a little Slack Key guitar (Hawaiian style!) and would love to learn some Ragtime on guitar.

Gotta agree with Dust in the Wind, what a wonderful song out of such simple fingerpicking.

As well:

Teach your Children / CSNY
As Tears Go By / Rolling Stones
Brown Eyed Girl / Van Morrison
Tangled up in Blue / Dylan
All Along The Watchtower / Dylan

My favourite has to be Chet Atkin's rendition of " Vincent" from his "Read my Licks" CD

Dust in the Wind
Classical Gas
Jazz in the Box
The Rain Song
Pinball Wizard
Daylight Again
Penny for Your Thoughts
Roxanne
Stairway to U no where
Helplessly Hoping

Play em about everyday plus many Led Zep acoustic renditions. Jimmy Page's earlier acoustic songs still some of my favorites.

Well, Classical gas has gotta be one of my favorites, but I'm still working on the finger picking thing. Lately, I've realized just how much more enjoyable finger picking is, and I'm working my way through Phil Keaggy's "County Down." I'd love to eventually learn Jazz in the Box...

Little Martha (Allman Bros)
Can't Find My Way Home (Blind Faith)
Rain Song (Led Zep)
Blackbird (Beatles)
