What are your favorite iPod Touch apps for guitar/music?
Chord dictionary, tuner, metronome, etc. What apps do you like?

CNET Review
Hi Folks,
CNET just did a in-depth examination of a few Ipod apps for guitar players. There was some interesting reading....now I just need an Ipod!! http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-19512_7...html?tag=mncol MikeB |
I have Chord Play (really useless as a tool) and Guitar Reference Pro. I'll probably get 7 Chords and GTK Lite as well.
Anybody know of a good app that shows chord progressions? |

Please tell us more about what you are looking for the program to do? Is it to display progressions or play them or both? A note on programs in my iPod... Some of the programs I have duplicate functions, and probably the most functions are contained in Guitarist's Reference since it displays chords, or scales (or both combined), or triads, or individual notes, and it tests you if you want. What I enjoy about Chordmaster is it will display the scale degree or the notes in a chord so you know how the chord is ''assembled''. Fretboard is pretty much a chord, note, neck dictionary/resource. Lots of raw data. It also has tunings for about a billion instruments (ok just a dozen or so). Bouziki and other instruments besides guitar. Also includes a lot of specialty tunings used by individual artists. 7chords is a point-n-shoot chord finder with positions up the neck. |
Just display would be nice. Something like Hot Frets Progressionator (http://www.hotfrets.com/songanator.asp). That would be pretty cool.

I installed Chordmaster and Fretboard LE, I like them both quite a bit.

Best iPhone/Touch Guitar App BY FAR is.....
Guitar Toolkit. Hands down.
$9.99, but so what. This tool has everything you will ever need and the implementation is flawless and gorgeous. http://guitartoolkit.com/ Available at the iTunes App Store. |
Star Guitar
Great thread ...like our very own CNET review panel!
I've been using Star Guitar. Here's the link to the short review in iLounge: http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/new...ne-ipod-touch/ and the youtube demo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXv_qcQ6GjU (it's not quite as easy to use as the youtube makes it seem!) http://inlinethumb50.webshots.com/22...500x500Q85.jpg I like: - that it's a guitar and voice recording application (the later if you have a 2nd gen iTouch or iPhone) - the chord buttons pad (it is way easier to play patterns with your thumb using chord buttons v.s. the 'simulated strings' that most ipod apps seem to use) It's medium priced at $4. |
