Preferred Nut Width for Dreadnaughts?
With all the discussion on nut widths over the years, I thought it would be useful to survey community preferences.
To not confuse things, this poll is *only for steel string dreadnaughts* (my impression is that's where most of the variability and questions seem to be). Perhaps others could start polls for other guitars or saddles. I realize that string spacing at the nut is more important than actual nut width -- I went with nut width because it's the standard terminology. This also might offer good feedback for designers/manufacturers. |
Thanks for this poll. Very interesting results, conforming my own preference.
Thanks, Glenn |

That said, anything between 1 11/16" and 1 3/4" is totally fine, though some 1 11/16" can feel a bit cramped and some 1 3/4" can feel pretty wide, nut spacing and neck profile depending. |
This question seems to me like "Preferred Glove Size for Ice Hockey?"

I Would like to have a 2" 12 fret Dread :)

Interesting results so far. Thanks to all for your votes and replies!
whoa, I see your perspective, and I actually wish that analogy was completely true, too. But, most manufacturers just offer 1 size per model (or, 1 size across all their dreads), so players' choices are often compromised. One point of this poll is to understand whether the most common offering for a dread (1 11/16) is consistent with the most common preference. |
