I’m an Enabler
 

I raved about my X30 to a friend of mine who lives a few hours away and has never played an Emerald, or an X30, so much that he bought one yesterday directly from Emerald.

It was the Black X30 on the website. He’s in for a real shock.

There outta be a badge or somethin'. :cool:

Hope your friend enjoys it. It was nice to chat with you a couple of months ago about X30's. It is a D-28 killer, if that was his favorite.

I think there is a difference between an enabler and an enthusiast. An enthusiast encourages... an enabler (like my wife) allows the enthusiast to make those purchases. ;)

On edit: If one were to ask me about a particular Emerald model I have, and I were to sing its praises, I would be an enthusiast. If one were to tell that person that they have my permission, encouragement, and assistance to buy that model, I would be an enabler. Not stating anyone in particular, nor the model, but I am encouraging. LOL

I’m a hair away from ordering one. There is a blue veneer that has been calling to me. And you raving about your X30 is [not] helping me... :)

In the space of a couple months, you bought a guitar without playing it first ... and then allowed a friend to do the same without reprimand?

Let me push you off the ledge then :D

I had the X20, was a Paduak veneer, super sweet. I mean eye popping sweet, but moved it because I just prefer you bigger guitars(took me awhile to figure that out for some reason). I kept trying the OM size woods and while I love the size, you do sacrifice that big guitar sound(at various levels) that I prefer.

So recently I went looking for an Emerald again and thought X20 and X30. This time I got lucky(for me) because I wound up getting the X30. I remember the box getting here, brought it down the basement, took it out of the case and my first thought was....**** this is a BIG guitar!

However, that is the magic of the X30, or part of it for me. It literally feels like playing a smaller guitar. It somehow, obviously the beveling, shrinks from case to lap and it is such a revelation, or was to me!

Then the sound, so much usable bottom end. It's hard to put into words, more of a sound that rattles you. This is a stretch of an analogy(big time), but think 2008 Beijing Olympics opening ceremony, when they had the 2008 drummers playing at the same time, that deep resonate sound.

Thanks! The only hesitation I have is the many references to “the big bottom end”, which may sound crazy. I like/need to be able to hear the high end, as well, without it getting overwhelmed by the bass. I realize some of this is pick attack, but I’m a Taylor 814/816 guy in terms of sound; crisp and present bass, clear trebles.

Does this make sense, and if so, how do you feel about the top end?

By the way, I prefer big guitars, and I’m not a big guy. There’s something about getting a lot of sound out of a guitar with very little effort.

Oh the top end is there in spades as well. I usually play 1/2 step down, but use standard tuning with the X30 and the top end rings.

The closest sound comparison that I can make, and again this is a personal opinion, but I found the sound very similar was to this one.

Just bought the stock X-30 Pau Ferro.
Byudzai's demos, other videos, comments at this sub forum and my impulsiveness led to this.
This is the first time I have bought a guitar without personally playing it.
That's a big "gulp".
