"The tree" sings, and the cedar softens and blooms!
Was playing my Baranik 'tree' / sinker cedar this evening... Thanks for posting... very nice. Best, Phil |
The Tree Sings...amen!
You're welcome and thanks Phil. I have a Santa Cruz Ltd Ed Vintage Artist (with Adirondack spruce top) from 'The Tree' as well...and I agree, the tree sings!

Thanks for sharing pictures of your guitar. It's probably the one that convinced me to go with the Tree. Were you able to compare your guitar with Jim's typical offering (rosewood/cedar)? |
No comparison!
No, I actually have not...but might be a fun comparo!
|
That is sweet Olson Tucker.
You know I love The Tree. I thought having more that one guitar out of it would be too decedent. You and Phil have changed my mind for good. I need an "All Tree" guitar. Most likely a double top, but I've been saving these three matching sets...I quess I'll use two of them. I've worked hard not to have two guitars out of the same wood combo and a don't have a mahogany topped guitar even though I loved an old Martin 00-17 I parted ways with so.... |
Not to take this thread too far afield,,,, but!! ,,, Jay - that sounds amazing. I too thought about a 'tree' topped guitar, but it would have to be double topped to handle the stress on all that flat sawn figure. I'll settle for enjoying yours vicariously.
More than one 'tree'? Truly needed..! My cedar topped Baranik will be joined in 2013 by the spruce-topped McKnight, and later by the LS topped Mayes. The big three... But none of mine will have the dress-up style of this Olson! (Did you like how I brought the post back around to the thread topic? Subtlety was never my strong point....) Best, Phil |
This is coming together great, Joe. I'm excited for you!
Kindly, Danny |
not to perpetuate a thread hijack but... If I had 3 matching sets I'd have a hard time not taking one shot with a JLD system... I'd just have to know how it would sound au naturale. I can’t imagine that the Tree would be any more fragile than flamed redwood... but then I’ve always been a bit of a risk taker :D

Wow, Jim does such a great job!
