Special, special prize for that one bro.
(I would have said 3 specials if you had not reversed two letters, and 4 if you had used the little curly cue under the "c".)
Steve

Yes, I meant to type goncalo but you know how auto correct can mess up your belt efforts. And where IS that curly cue? I dont see it on my keyboard.

Gonçalo Alves, sometimes known as Brazilian Tigerwood.

How did you do that?

nacluth 01-12-2018 09:29 PM

Well on an iPhone you can just hold down the letter c to get options: c, ç, ć, č.

Another forum I post on frequently doesn’t support the extra characters. So one day I tried to respond to a person’s witticism with touché, but instead the last letter simply disappeared. It seemed like I was implying I wanted to “touch” the other person.

Gonçalo Alves?

I think I had some of those on my salad yesterday.

Cool pic, any chance you could describe what is happening. That tool looks like a shotgun shell with a screw head in place of the primer?

nacluth 01-13-2018 08:56 AM

It is a 20 gauge shell. We pierce the end of shell by hammering in a metal tube right through the center. This allows the powder to travel down to the pencil lines that we had already drawn on the peghead. Then with a Bic lighter, we ignite the gunpowder, and voila!, a perfect pocket for the pearl to sit in.

Edit: I’m being told that for legal reasons I have to disavow the previous explanation and just say that Steve is holding a very fine 1/16” chisel. He’s cleaning up the walls of the pockets he has already routed into the peghead. The bulk of the chisel handle is out of frame.

I liked the first explanation better!

Nice torch guys!

I had the great privilege to visit Steve's shop last Thursday and then again yesterday morning. He invited me to come over and play his oak parlor guitar (I had remarked on Facebook that I had never played an oak guitar) and I was impressed by that, but not being a real parlor aficionado, the guitars I was smitten by were all larger ones. The beautiful OM with primavera back and sides struck me as just about ideal in terms of balance, string separation, and sweetness. Steve brought it out when I told him that I gravitated toward mahogany, saying it was similar. I loved the clarity in the mid-range and trebles, but the low end struck me as being more profound and resonant than your typical mahogany b&s guitar - more like rosewood, maybe - which makes it the best of both worlds in my book. If I'd had the scratch it would have come home with me.

But then I might have regretted not playing the bubinga guitar more, or the "John Sebastian" SJ. Truly an embarrassment of riches. If anyone is on the fence about any of those, you'd better snap them up before my ship comes in!

Thanks Stan for dropping by. One of our favorite things is getting to hang out with our old/new AGF friends. I’m glad you got the real backwoods feel with no power.

Thanks Rye. That torch always does look nice.
