Sanding down the saddle

My strings at the 12th fret are 4mm. I think 2mm will be perfect, so do I sand off 4mm on the saddle? The saddle sets pretty high so there’s plenty to remove. Thanks

Is that height from the top of the frets to the bottom of the string? Seems way high.

Yes, it’s a new guitar

Remove twice the amount of material from the bottom of the saddle that you what to lower the action. Nut slot depth and neck relief are other important variables to consider.

Yes, just sand the bottom. But make sure you use a something like the side of a level that is perfectly 90° to hold the saddle against as you sand. You want to keep the bottom perfectly square. Go a little at a time. I suggest taking a magic market or pencil and color the bottom of the saddle so as you sand you can make sure you're sanding evenly. Once you sand all the color off evenly, measure and repeat as needed.

STOP.

Take it to a tech for a proper setup. There's more to a setup than the saddle. What about the neck relief and the depth of the nut slots? Are you just going to ignore those? If your relief is out of wack and the nut slots are too high, sanding the saddle won't help much.

I took 3mm off and the action is perfect. Thanks

Take it back... Demand a new one with proper action height...

Any chance you could take a close up pic of the saddle as it is now, and also measure the distance between the underside of the string and the top of the soundboard at the bridge?
