Almost There...

Kent has now gotten the tru-oil finish to where he wanted it. To quote Kent:

"...Enough sheen to highlight the contrasting colors and to accentuate the flame in the Catalpa but satin enough to fit the style..."

There is a rumor...

That the strings are on...:-)

That's another great looking guitar you've had built iim7V7IM7... are you on some kind of guitar nirvana quest? Looking forward to seeing the final shots and your impressions. Congratulations to you and Kent. Cheers, berf
P.S. is there a little round hole in the back of the headstock (second pic). If so, what's it's purpose?

iim7V7IM7 08-10-2014 04:56 PM

The hole you see is for the truss rod cover.

I am actually going to have the pleasure of deciding between this Wenge Craftsman Style guitar and The BRW Prairie Style guitar soon. The one that I don't sellect will be available through Kent so anyone interested should reach out to him directly to let him know. I really have no idea which one I will prefer....stay tuned

I am fulfilling a life long goal of a series of different guitars. Fun stuff...

... and you're doing it with great style; thanks for sharing the journey.

Kent actually sent this to me last weekend but somehow, I missed it.

Needs a nut, a saddle and some strings...:-)

Stringed up in Bellingham

Rumors of being stringed up are apparently true....

A few close ups courtesy of Kent. The custom ebony buttons and truss rod cover tie together nicely and the flamed catalpa inset logo in the Craftsman Style look great.eliminating the nuts around the Schertler posts is a nice touch.

The raised flamed catalpa rosette pays tribute to the clean joinery of the movement. The end of the raised fingerboard is reiterated by Kent's signature bridge. Being ebony, it ties with the TR cover and tuner buttons.

This shot shows the beautiful Engelmann top, the sapele bound wenge body and the low gloss wood finish that features the textures and grains of the woods.

Although both the "Craftsman Style" guitars are stunning and beautiful, this one really speaks to me. Love the detailing and overall simplicity of this design! Have you made a decision on the one you're keeping?--has to be a very difficult choice...

Thanks for your kind words.

I have not made any decision yet. I like both guitars for different reasons. Kent and I have been on this build journey for over a year now if you include the build queue time. Kent has generously allowed me the opportunity to audition both before deciding. I will let my audition be the final arbiter of which guitar to chose. So one of these two guitars will be for sale soon (likely in October). So I suggest that those of you that are interested reach out to Kent directly.

A absolutely love this guitar, it is just beautiful. The Wenge fingerboard is fantastic!

A Few More

The rich quartersawn texture of the grain of the wenge is preserved due to the Tru-Oil finish. The inset dimensionality of the flamed catalpa backstrip can be seen.
