"Victory Rag" - (composer unknown)

Hi friends of fingerstyle guitar music,

this is my version of the "Victory Rag". The composer is unknown and there are a number of different versions around. Maybe this one was composed in the late 1800th., since the melody and the harmonics are by far less complex than in the later Scott Joplin compositions.

It is a simple and basic version - but fun to play.
Hope you like it.

greetings from Germany

Gerhard

And fun to listen to! Very nice, Gerhard. Thanks for uploading that. I think a lot of guitarists will be able to learn it and have fun. I like the fact that you play with a little oomph in your striking hand (strong right-hand attack) because it’s what I prefer to hear in many kinds of music.

By the way, if you don’t mind me asking, how is your last name pronounced? Is the g silent?

Great! Doc Watson also plays that I think.

Terrific job, Gerhard!! Lots of fun in this tune and you bring this out beautifully!
This might be one I would attempt in the future.....love ragtime tunes like this. Your playing is wonderful and each note is clear and right on!
Best wishes,
Fred

Hi Norman,
thank you very much for this compliment.... I also think, this kind of music needs pronounced notes, what sometimes reminds to stakato playing.

And concerning my last name, the G is pronounced silent, like the way it is spoken for Gibson guitars.

Hi eyesore,

thanks a lot. Yes there are many versions out there. Doc Watson´s version that I know has a stromg kind of country feel in it. I like it better in the way Scott Joplin plays ragtimes.

Great playing, BTW, it's a Maybelle Carter song.
