MLB 2021 Thread

Opening Day for Major League Baseball is today. What teams and players are you rooting for?

RedJoker 04-01-2021 08:10 AM

Funny timing! I had just checked when the Cincinnati Reds play today and I thought I'd see if there was a thread posted in here. I'm not a huge fan but I like to go to games and casually follow the Reds so I can contribute to baseball conversations with my Dad and brother. We tend to go to our local minor league team games far more, though...

jpd 04-01-2021 08:15 AM

Hmmmmmm.....

What! Baseball is back! Well what d'ya know.......

westview 04-01-2021 08:31 AM

Glad baseball is back. Same baseball thoughts as the last few years.
Is this the year everyone gets to see Mike Trout and Angels in the post season playoffs?

MLB is very possessive of their markets and are concerned about people, like yourselves, that are having a good time at their local minor league games enjoying themselves at reasonable prices. Believe me, you are not alone!

Toronto Blue Jays for me, grew up there, always a fan of Leafs and Jays. ;)

Mets! Sorry about the Sox rain out, Dru!

Jim Owen 04-01-2021 09:58 AM

We are rained out today. I’m rooting for the Redsox as I have for decades. As to specific players, I’m rooting for Bobby Dalbec, batting 9th. And I think Tanner Houck might be added to the rotation sooner rather than later in the season.

Trout, the best guy in MLB, has only been to the playoffs once in his 10 years and the Angels were swept. Just checked, Mike batted .083 in that series. He deserves to be in the playoffs.

I don't know what the Red Sox will do this year, especially after last year's debacle.

Lillis 04-02-2021 11:39 AM

Reds.... might be a rough season. Just happy to see it here.

Dotneck 04-02-2021 02:02 PM

I started watching the Cleveland Indians in the 60s...this is the time in the season we start saying....maybe next year.

Its still fun to watch...there are great Indians players all over the league. This year at the Mets and Dodgers in particular.

Dru Edwards 04-02-2021 03:41 PM

Red Sox ... lost to the Orioles 3-0 at home and only managed 2 hits. Going to be a long season.

Harmon Killebrew, Tony Olivia, Rod Carew, Jim Kaat, Bert Blyleven.....still the team I root for 50 years later. Anyone recall these guys and this team?

When I see Rod Carew's name, I think the Angels, when I see Harmon Killebrew I think the Twins. I had forgotten that Carew had started his career with the Twins.

Just looked up Killebrew's stats... he led the league 6 times in HRs, all of them over 40. And of course Carew was one of the best hitters.

Who does the team look this year?

jpd 04-03-2021 07:18 AM

Yup

I sure do! Late 60's into the early 70's....saw 'em at 'ol Tiger stadium. Carew is my favorite hitter...and Olivia was excellent...they all were!
