NGD for me..MARTIN 000X1AE

I received my new guitar. A Martin 000X1AE. I read and watched a ton of reviews before ordering and wasn't sure what to expect. I felt like I was rolling the dice a little but all is well. The action is exactly as i like it.. it is as low as it can possibly be without any buzzing. The neck is awesome..I love the feel of he neck and the finish on it..I also like the fretboard as it feels some flatter than my old Wahburn. Bare chords are easy and neck is fast.love the looks of the guitar. Mine has the HPL in rosewood for sides and back. I love the 000 body shape it feels perfect as far as size for comfort and doesn't seem to sacrifice tone in the smaller body. My only complaint is the strings.. they seem to be going dead. I noticed on a few Martin's I played in a local store most of them all sounded dead.. the owner stated that the strings needed changed. This brings me to my question.. this model comes from Martin with the Martin SP 92/8 Light gauge 12-54 strings. I would like to put Elixir acoustic strings on. I want the gauge of each string to be same as what comes on it as I want to ensure they stings fit the nut and the action will be same because its so good. So.... is the dimension in gauge on the elixir strings figured before the coating or after? If its figured before coating then with the coating they will be thicker than what came on it. Can someone help me with this. Thanks I will try to attach pics of my new Martin if someone can tell me how. I do not see an attachment area.. I took a few pics to share thanks

Congratulations on you new guitar. Right now I'm looking for a really good deal on a MartinX 000. You shouldn't have any problem switching strings.

But really, where are the pictures?!

Anybody have an answer on string switch? Fo keep same diameter strings that martin puts on this guitar in light gauge will I need to use extra light gauge in elixir strings because the extra coating on them making them fatter?
Also I took pictures to post but don't see how to attach pictures..can any one advise on that? Thanks

Put a set of elixir lights on it, it will be fine. Congrats on your new Martin.

Most guitars have the nut filed to where you can use either light or medium gauge strings on it.
Don't worry about the individual string gauge just get the strings that you like and play on.

If by chance you do find that the strings are tight apply some graphite to the nut slots. A pencil will do the trick.

Great choice! I have the 000CX1AE which is it's predecessor with a cutaway. They have great sound and look good too. Enjoy your new guitar.

The best deal I have seen lately is $499 online right now. Maybe around the holidays there could be a better price, but probably not much.

That's a nice price. I'm watching the used market locally. I see them used at atound 450. I'm waiting for a used one under 350.

I actually got mine for $499. I am extremely happy with my purchase. This guitar is handy and perfect for setting on couch or end of the bed and playing. I think It sounds great too. I was shocked considering the HPL But I'm very pleased.

It doesn’t appear to be mentioned in that thread, but another option is to become a forum charter member ($25/yr...great deal!) which allows you to upload pics to your posts directly from your pc. Once a charter member, this is done by selecting the “Manage attachments” button below the text box which takes you to another screen where you can select “Choose file” which generates the box to search within your computer files, then upload.

I haven't seen one go for $350 in 5 years. Not that it can't and doesn't happen, but I haven't seen it. (and I have been looking)

I had a deal for one at 350 but the seller backed out. Then I got my X dread for 300, but sold it because it just felt too big and had a 1 11/16 nut. I'll keep watching and maybe get lucky.
