Really wanna slap myself right now!

Started restringing my guitar and like a complete idiot, I put the A string where the E string goes. Already clipped it too, so just wasted a set of premium D’Addrio strings. So frustrating. Guess I should’ve waited until I had another cup of coffee before starting this. Oh well…back to guitar center I guess. Please tell me I’m not the only one who’s done this!

Some reason you cant still use it in the proper position?

Probably not long enough now to reach he A peg.

I’ll admit I have done similar, but caught it before clipping. Probably couldn’t find my reading glasses lol.

In addition, I always try (as I’m sure you do), to have a few extra sets handy.

Any way, yeah frustrating and a lesson learned. Sounds like you have the right attitude about it. Laugh it off, and move on. :)

Not that specifically, but one time I wasn't paying attention and tried to tune the low E to the the higher octave and a third of the way there it snapped. A true testament to how well the bridge was glued down.

llew 09-20-2021 07:35 AM

Add me to the list of those who've done it too. It is frustrating. Hopefully you've got extra strings.

TBman 09-20-2021 07:46 AM

One time I clipped a string at its post, instead of the post above.

Stuff happens.

I almost forgot that experience - till I read this! You had to write it, right?

rmp 09-20-2021 07:58 AM

yea,, who hasn't done this at least a few times?

I think the optimal words in your post Barry are "one time". I've not done it since and I think it was partially due to the fact that I was in a hurry. Like the old carpenter adage...measure twice...cut once!:D

hairpuller 09-20-2021 09:17 AM

Sheepishly raises hand. Thankfully I've only done it once <knocks on wood>.

sevenpalms 09-20-2021 09:21 AM

If that’s the worst thing that happens to you today then I think you’re doing pretty good!

Kyle215 09-20-2021 09:30 AM

I’ve been known to get distracted while watching a ballgame and do silly things with strings…

Dotneck 09-20-2021 09:53 AM

Remember when you could buy single strings at the LGS?

YamahaGuy 09-20-2021 11:28 AM

Good excuse to buy a mini/short scale guitar.

I've done it many times. That's why I have spare sets on hand. I donate the other 5 to my on-hand single spares.

I was thinking that exactly. The OP just created a replacement set for a Little Martin. Now he has a good reason to purchase another guitar.

I think we've all had our stringing mishaps before. I know that I too put the A string where the E string goes once before, years ago. Not sure if it was related to coffee though.

Mbroady 09-20-2021 12:50 PM

Let that be the worst of your problems :)

wisedennis 09-20-2021 01:57 PM

Easy,

Buy a smaller size guitar that can use the string.

Br1ck 09-20-2021 02:38 PM

You can buy single strings from a few sources. I can get one from Gryphon if I need to.

EZYPIKINS 09-20-2021 02:42 PM

Line forms to the left.

joeappel 09-20-2021 02:52 PM

You're not the only one :)

I did but they were a different brand and the lights when I needed a medium. No worries. I was able to swing by GC and grab another set. I’ll be sure to do it right this time!

Actually, I had some good luck for the remainder of the day, so it’s all good.:)

I checked at GC. No such luck.

Well..I came close to buying another today while I was picking up a new set of strings. Luckily I had enough self discipline to get myself out of there with only the strings. Next time will be a different story.

Acousticado 09-20-2021 03:50 PM

Stuff happens and I appreciate how. In my 46 years of playing, I’ve been lucky that I’ve never made a stringing mistake.

LMAO. Do you really think this is the most egregious stringing faux pas you could have? As you will find EVERYONE has a stringing mistake story. From the rookies to the pros. Stuff happens. Thanks for starting the thread though. Lots of good posts.
