Here's one I was wrong about. I thought she'd be huge. She's basically out of the business now, and her backstory (which informs this song) is kind of tragic.

Agree! There are so many. Eve Cassidy was pretty amazing. Linda Ronstadt, Ann Wilson, Martina McBride, Olivia Newton-John, etc. are all great voices. |

Really diggin' Molly Tuttle lately, and I'm not a huge bluegrass fan.
She's got an Alison Krauss/Leigh Nash vibe happening on some of her songs... |

So I'm not going to get into a list of female singers I'd like, because the list would be in the hundreds and I'd forget dozens. When I was trying to get my concept of "lead guitar" playing on electric guitar I listened to mostly women singers for ideas. Liked watching the bored audience as O'Day starts with the spare intro to just the drums and then everyone waking up as Tea for Two starts. And what did that microphone do to get locked up in that barred cell? And oh well, a great many of my long list of favorites have been mentioned, but has anyone mentioned Nina Simone and Aretha Franklin yet? |
Luciana Souza is a personal favorite.
