Ella and Duke

Not sure whether this is the right place to post this, but I got a burning question about Ella Fitzgerald I gots to ask. Any Ella fans out there? I'm interested in getting her Duke Ellington Songbook, but I'm confused by the options on Amazon. There's a 3-disc box containing the complete tracks. Then there's the MP3 album, which has nearly all the tracks. Then there's a 2-disc set that doesn't have two tracks from the album nor does it have all the out-takes. Which version would you recommend?

Dear moderator, if this question is inappropriate here, please delete it. I apologize in advance.

Personally I like the original 4 LP release, so the 3-CD set matches my criteria.

That's a great set BTW. The Ellington band is in top form. The arrangements are beautiful, ranging from traditional big band to small ensemble, and even some duets. There's some great Herb Ellis and Barney Kessel guitar there too. (Archtop content!)

But don't stop there. The whole Ella song book series has been at the top of my list forever. Work your way through it.

Thanks a lot! Yep, the 3-disc set is for me. I got the Porter set and the Gershwin set. Can't wait to get the Ellington set.

We're of like mind. I have a box set, 30 or so CDs I think, that has ALL her songbooks!

My other favorite Ella recordings are her session with Louis Armstrong in 1956, (same era as the songbooks) and a little known quartet recording called Clap Hands, Here Comes Charlie (1961).

Lots of great Herb Ellis in all those recordings too. He's a lesson in how to play with a band, or how to comp a singer.
