Do you want to know a secret (Beatles cover)

Hello,
Here's a cover a Beatles song that I've always liked. I recorded it from my computer (without an external mic) and used Audacity to amplify and get rid of noise. What are your thoughts?
Thank you.

I think the performance is good, but the sound quality is a little distracting. Any external mic should sound a lot better. There are a lot of inexpensive options that will do your performance justice!

Thank you. I will look into options.

Seems to be more distortion. Did the recording clip at all? Digital distortion is not a pleasant thing, even in small doses.

Nice performance, though.

Hi Fred, what does "clip" mean? I am really a recording beginner.

clip is when the recording exceeds the top headroom. With analog recording you could occasionally "go into the red" and the distortion was ok, but with digital recording you MUST not go into the red. watch the meter or red light and make sure you don't exceed that at all. I strum or sing as loud as I can to set the levels, that way I know I will not exceed the limits. There were some times when the vocals went into the red.

Try hanging out on the Record section of the forum. A lot of good advice there. There is also a wealth of internet sites explaining the basics of digital recording for the beginner.

Thank you. I most surely will!

New clips

As an alternative to a laptop, I used a new app on my IPad to record these clips. Please let me know your thoughts.

Wow, much clearer. You have a great voice, keep it up.

I know I told you this before on some of your earlier offerings.
You most definitely sound like Helen Reddy.

BTW, that’s a good thing. Maybe try this one sometime.

It's funny, because I grew up listening to her song "Delta Dawn." :)

All three performances are really good - but stick with your iPad to record as the results above are much clearer and do justice to your vocals and playing. Well done. Please keep 'em coming.

Thank you. I really appreciate it. My next song will be a French one. :)
