Gorgeous Ziricote back and sides, Engelmann Spruce top, and Tyler’s unique appointments in Maple, Koa, and Ziricote. Side dots are aluminum, mini Gotohs offer smooth operation, flawless fit-n-finish and a 13-fret neck scoots the bridge closer to the center of the lower bout for extra warmth and volume.


Regarding the voice: equal parts open and breathy with good separation between the bass and mids. The trebles have overtones big enough to cast a shadow. Lush upper mids, great separation between registers. The 13-fret neck carve is delightfully quick to the touch. The bass strikes with a crisp fundamental that translates well for dropped tunings like DADGAD.


Brand new and with such an opened up voice? This Robbins R.1 is only going to improve with age, and it’s starting at the top of the food chain.
