Blazer and Henkes Euphonon Style 44, Euro Spruce and Maple

I decided not to sell this one. It has grown on me.

Blazer and Henkes Euphonon Style 44

I recently received this new Euphonon direct from Blazer and Henkes in Germany. Although Willi Henkes has described the sound as the quintessential Larson Brothers Euphonon sound, I’ve decided this sound just isn’t for me. Blazer and Henkes are certainly in a position to know, as they are one of the premier outfits in the world for recreation of the old Larson Brothers designs.

Willi graciously offered to take the guitar back. However, there is uncertainly about whether VAT and customs duties will be applied, so this option (with the shipping) could end up costing me a lot of money. Instead, I’m offering it for sale in the US, where the risk to me is much lower. The guitar is brand new.

Style 44 is the second highest trim level, reflected by the ornate inlays and shell trim.

Here are some details:
  • Top: Austrian “Haselfichte” spruce, moon harvested
  • Back and sides: Maple
  • Nut: Slightly over 1 ¾” at 4.49 cm
  • Saddle spacing: 2.313”
  • Neck: Maple with medium C profile (as described by Willi Henkes). It’s a bit more like a full C in my experience. Carbon fiber reinforcement without adjustable truss rod
  • Bridge: Madagascar ebony, slotted, ivoroid galalith pins
  • Fretboard: Madagascar ebony
  • Inlay: Hand cut mother of pearl in the fretboard
  • Top inlay: Solid pearl from green abalone
  • Purfling: All solid wood (maple and ebony)
  • Bracing: Larson style laminated braces with spruce and Brazilian rosewood

It’s hard to imagine a guitar built closer to the original Larson spec. The quality is top tier and the condition is, of course, like new.

***Here's a sound clip I put together. Playing isn't great, but what can you do.***

Can you describe the Larson Bros sound...?

Sorry to hear you weren't happy with the purchase. I'd be gutted. It's a beautiful guitar. Best of luck.

Hey roberts, this article by the esteemed Guitar Scholar Extraordinaire, John Thomas, gives a lot of detail on the Larson Brothers' guitars. Willi Henkes makes an appearance in the article

I am a huge Blazer & Henkes fan. I have a number of them that are permanent keepers.

I had this model with different woods and it was truly amazing in all areas - , workmanship, playability and tone.

Save yourself the multi-year wait and buy this baby. Juston is one of the best guys you will ever deal with.

Too bad it didn't float your boat, Juston.

Good luck with your sale, man.

Juston is a great person to deal with, folks.

Awesome looking guitar, and B&H have a stellar reputation. Best of luck - someone will love this!

If this isn’t the best looking guitar I’ve seen on AGF, whew, I don’t know what is.

Just FYI, I bought a Tippin from the EU and it was tied up in Customs/Cities for a few months. We had a work around that let us ship it to the original manufacturer under a warranty claim. This immediately let it clear. I had Bill Tippin re-fret the guitar for the heck of it and the guitar got to me in perfect shape with no fees. I returned a broken G7th capo to the U.K. for a $5 repair and G7th ate a ungodly tax and customs fee so it may not work both ways.

Boy, any other time of the year and this would already be in my music room. I love maple and I just don’t see how you could go wrong but you are obviously looking for some other tone. And I get that. At this level, there are no bad guitars but only different expectations. I’m a mahogany guy, way too deep in Rosewood guitars right now and have 2 stellar Rosewood guitars for sale.

Thanks guys, you’re very kind.

Yeah, Jim, I’m anxious about what might happen in customs and would prefer not to gamble. It’s definitely a world class guitar. Just not the tone that moves me. It’s happened a few times before. No big deal. And, yes, Blazer makes some amazing guitars.

I've never seen one of these before. Very pretty!

Hi,

I am in a similar position with a mint Preston Thompson guitar I purchased new last year (2017 build), which would make a great trade for your guitar, with some extra cash to you. It is an OM style, Cuban mahoghany, re-claimed redwood top. Original price $7200, perhaps we could agree on something?

Juston, I have a mint Preston Thompson OM which I purchased new a year ago (2017 build), & it is lovely, but since then I have acquired an actual '31 OM 28, so the PKT is tradeable. If you would have any interest, perhaps we could work something out: Cuban Mahoghany, re-claimed redwood top, Harp-tone case. This was $7200, so it would be the guitar plus some cash to you, whatever agreed upon.

Every Blazer and Henkes I've played has been astounding. Best of wishes with the sale!
