"Good-bye Christopher Robin"..Must See
 

Just watched the film "Good-bye Christopher Robin" on HBO. Well worth seeing.

Basically, its the story of A.A. Milne and how he came to write the "Winnie the Pooh" stories. The tradegies that led to and stemmed from the stories is pretty amazing.

The real Christopher Robin (i.e Christopher Milne) used to run a bookshop in Dartmouth (Devon). You could buy all three volumes of his autobiography there, and he would sign them, of course, if you wanted.

They mention that at the end of the film. He also never accepted any of the vast amounts of money generated by the Pooh stories.

I didn't know that.
Actually I didn't know the bookshop was there until I stumbled into it. I remember visiting Dartmouth sometime in the 1980s, walking into the bookshop, and wondering why they had so many copies of books by Christopher Milne for sale. So I took a look at one, put two and two together, realised that 'Christopher Milne' was Christopher Robin Milne, and that this chap here in front of me was Christopher Robin himself. Strange experience. I bought all three volumes of course!

One other thing I didn't know, Christopher's original toys that became the characters are on display at the New York Public Library. They note 3/4 of a million people still visit the displays each year.

In other British artifacts, I did visit the "Lions of Tsabo" at the Field Museum in Chicago.

Remarkable - I don't even know they still existed.

You can still visit the Poohsticks bridge near Hartfield in Sussex, Galleon's Lap (real name Gill's Lap), and various other places that feature in the books.

It was good, and sad, from my perspective, as well.

I just saw an ad for a new Disney flick that seems to undoubtedly make light of the real tragedies in the lives of the Milne family, and C. R. in particular. Made me throw up a little in my mouth.
