Focusrite 2i2 Phantom Power Question

Hi all,

I just bought a condenser mic that requires phantom power. I have tested it with the 2i2 and everything comes out fine.

I want to try two simultaneous tracks using the 2i2. First track using the condenser mic and second using the direct output of my Yamaha AC3R.

The mic will be connected using an XLR cable. The guitar using a 1/4" TS cable.

I want to make sure that phantom power is not connected to the tip of the TS cable and therefore the AC1R electronics and the sleeve doesn't short out the 48V phantom power.

I searched for a 2i2 schematic or block diagram and couldn't find anything believable. I don't have a VOM or DMM at home.

Does anybody know if this is OK?

I don't want to fry anything.

Thanks,

Terry

Here’s what your manual says a out the +48v. Switch:

3. 48V - phantom power switch for mic inputs - enables +48 V phantom power at the XLR contacts of both Combo connectors

So, it doesn’t specifically state phantom power is not on the trs input, but it does imply so.

Also, in section “Physical and Electrical Characteristics” it says the phantom power is shared on inputs 1 and 2 (xlr connector only)

If it were me, I’d have no concern. You could ask Focusrite if you are concerned.
