Favorite Irish Band and/or Perfomer(s)

Let me go first with The Bothy Band and Micheal O Domhnaill (a late in life guitar hero).

Maybe my favorite band (suddenly it seems) of all time...

With St. Patrick's Day just a few days away...

The Chieftains and the Pogues.

fazool 03-15-2019 04:26 PM

The Cranberries and U2.....obviously.

Ozzy the dog 03-15-2019 04:26 PM

Christy Moore.

Oh, and not to forget the songwriting team of Sean O'Leannain & Pol MacCartaine.

Irish Rovers - Anyone remember them? They were out of Canada so I don't know if they were popular in the US. They had their own TV show in the 70s and "Wasn't that a Party" was a big hit 40 years back.

Rory Gallagher, Damien Rice

For the group, it has to be Clannad.

For individual performer, tough to choose between Christy Moore, Christie Hennessey and a new artist I urge you to check out. Daoirí Farrell stole the show on the Celtic Connections tour in 2018 and has just released his latest album. I'm looking forward to seeing him for the third time in a couple of weeks. In 2017, he won a BBC traditional song of the year award with this one:

Here's probably his most played track:

And to finish, one of my favourites:

Really tempts me to take up the Irish bouzouki. :D

Rory could play, sing, and entertain. He had an amazing beat up Strat that Fender released as a signature guitar.

Is there really anybody else but Van Morrison?

U2. Christy Moore. Pogues.
