What a delight to watch and listen to!

This was an awesome video. I really enjoyed listening to Stefan's playing and I loved his story about taking lessons from Rev. Gary Davis. Thanks for posting!

Ah, the good ol' days! I remember when Stefan was in the UK - I saw him many times, mostly , I think because although I was a drummer, the guitarists in my band wanted to go see him and I followed along although I was already into ragtime guitar but had no idea how to play.

I remembered seeing him at the Troubadour and Bunjies in London, but the last time we met (in Brighton some years ago, he told me that he had never played n one of them - can't remember which ...False memory thing perhaps.

I also seem to remember him turning up to a pub gig (pub was owned by our bass player's dad) ad he was driving an open top military jeep, with two black cases casually stacked on the back seat (bench) and , again, IF IRC - they were a Martin 0045 and a 00045. (both 12 fretters of course.

Anyone else remember his ol' guitars?

That was great, and YouTube algorithm led me this one where he talks more about Son House and the "Blues Mafia" that collected 78s, wondered about the players, and then went and found some of the living ones and brought them to new audiences.



As to Silly M's question about his guitars. I saw Grossman first in the early 80s in a big auditorium on a tour with John Renbourn, but I distinctly recall an instruction book I bought of his back in the day that had a cover picture of one of those Martins with the small snowflake position markers and thinking it looked so pretty.

I have followed Stefan as long as I can remember. I also remember the photos of his guitars on his album covers and any news stories I could find. I still want a 00-45 all blinged out like his old one. His playing is so effortlessly transparent. I have always appreciated his teaching tools also.

He seems to favor 14-fret guitars. I do see him with a 12-fret Martin on the cover for Yazoo Basin Boogie.

I used to have an album by Stefan that was recorded directly to disc. I think it was an audiophile album.
