What was that effect?

When my band gets together for rehearsals we usually do some improv just to see what happens and see if we can come up with any new material. Pretty much all our songs were created in this way. So last night I started banging out this Cramps inspired swampy rockabilly thing and we jammed on it for like ten minutes or so. When we were done my wife, who plays keyboards, asked me, "what was that effect you used on the last song?" So I look down at my massive pedal board and there was not a single red light on so I said, "I didn't use any effects."

She said, "I like the Fender."

Sometimes the best sound you can ever make is plugged right into the amp :D

In my case a 1972 Fender Twin, what an effect!

LOL Just wanted to share :)

Lots of great music was (and is) made with a nothing between your guitar and amp but a cable.

Also, cool that you get to play in a band with your wife.

Yep, straight through to the amp can be a great sound. Of course, nothing wrong with a OD pedal to give a little boost too.

I was watching Lightning Hopkins play on one of Lomax's recordings...

Its just Lightning and a Gibson acoustic with a soundhole pickup. He didn't give up anything in his tone vs his usual electric guitar play... What I did notice is his right hand attack and playing position constantly changing to make the guitar do what he wanted it to do....

Yeah you can get a lot of different tones depending on where you strike the strings. I'm thinking maybe I should get an A/B box so I can bypass my effects board and go straight to the amp just for those couple songs I don't use any effects.
