Who makes a short scale wide nut?

I am looking for a small CF guitar that nas at the very least a 1.75 nut and is short scale 24.7-24.9 12 fret for finger dtyle.

I have a rainsong p12 and it is a great guitar but the nut is too narrow. It is said to be 1.75 but it is not.

My current favorite guitars are 12 fret 00 bodies and would like a close CF equivalent.

What do you suggest?

Talk to Emerald (Sean), they can make the scale length you desire. I'm not sure what options they have for nut width, but suspect it's the same....they can usually do what you want.

Thanks for the mention, John!

We are indeed very flexible when it comes to accommodating our customers' specific needs, whether it's a certain scale length, nut width or any other specs they are looking for. We are here to answer any questions.

Best wishes from all the team in Donegal!

Sean

RainSong guitars do in fact have a nut width of 1.75". I measured mine this morning, and have had a couple of previous RainSongs that were the identical 1.75".

If you are detecting a narrow feel, consider that it is not the nut width, but the string spacing at the saddle that you are feeling.

My RainSong and my Emerald X20 both have 1.75 nut width, . . . but the RainSong string spacing at the saddle is 2 5/32" and the Emerald X20 is 2 8/32".

My RainSong Shorty SSA has a 1.75" nut. Perhaps the neck radius/profile make your P seem narrower....just a thought:D

I've measured several Rainsong guitars and they are indeed 1.75" at the nut. However, every 1.75" nut I've measured also has exactly 1.5" string spacing, center-to-center. Sometimes a new nut can be made to spread the strings out a bit more. If you go too wide, the risk is that the first and sixth strings can slip off the edge of the fret board.

The CA Cargo is 22.75" scale (think "capo second fret") and a 1.75" nut width. We really like ours, and my wife plays in finger style exclusively.

I guess, depending on how sensitive one is, I can understand what was said in the original post. I have three Rainsongs...a new Parlor, new OM and an APLE. Just measured all three of them, and they all measure 1.730" on my dial caliper. There is no way I can get them anywhere near 1.750". So, that's a .020" difference, and I guess that may be of issue to someone. I've personally found in many cases when a nut width is said to be 1.750", they in fact measure slightly wider...around 1.770". So, if someone is used to playing a guitar, although spec'd as 1.750" and is actually 1.770", playing a Rainsong that actually measures 1.730" would be a .040" difference, and I would think that would be noticeable.

Journey makes CF guitars that match those specs.

Mine measures 1.728

That's a good 22 thousandths of an inch shy of 1 3/4"

Sorry about the focus, but I really need three hands to take that photo.

If the OP finds his Rainsong too tight, then I will also jump on the "Call up Emerald" bandwagon. Sean and Co. can make whatever you like for a fairly reasonable up-charge.

Call Emerald works for me too. They work magic. Another option that I like is the Lucky 13 from Blackbird. Its scale is in the area you want and I think you will find the nut width works for you. I was looking at Rainsong for a bit after I got an X20 from Emerald thinking they might work for me better. Ended up going with the Lucky 13 over the Rainsong I had my eye on then. FWIW I was initially thinking I would sell one or the other after I compared them, but I still have both because they are both great guitars. If I had to have only one guitar, I would probably keep the X20, but it depends on the day you ask.

I should add that I have had the Emerald since 2013 and got the Lucky 13 in 2014. I am still finding new reasons that both guitars are awesome in so many ways.
