Roadtrip for Tree

Heading to Washington next week to pick up a 27 inch wide board of "The Tree". Once again the Prius gets a long road trip.

Nice find!

Will it fit inside the Prius or ride on the roof rack? Nice wood, love the quilting.

Awesome find--have a great road trip! :D

It is only 8 feet long so it will fit in the Prius. No passenger though. LOL This is the widest board I have found since that 39 inch wide conference table...that one was 13 1/2 feet long.

The tree??

Ok, I'm sorry for my ignorance , however, I have always wondered what "The Tree" means D:

At first I assumed it was Brazilian Rosewood. Now I can't even...

Thanks and sorry for my lack of knowledge.

Regards, Hikari.

Thanks and sorry for my lack of knowledge. It was a mutant Honduran Mahogany Tree found in the early 1960's.

Regards, Hikari.

Here is a good background article.

Nice find! Is that a "sausage quilt"?

Yes Sausage Quilt or Sausage Curl. It makes for great one piece back guitars as well as book matched, one piece Harvey Leach guitar below. :-) Harv and I have one of those available.

The above would be Tortoiseshell.

Usually you provide a story behind the find, anything on this one or do you prefer secrecy on this guy hahaha?

Carbonius 03-08-2016 05:57 PM

OMG!!!

STUNNING!!!

JamesO 03-08-2016 08:04 PM

Jay, I can't tell you how much I'd love to hear more about how you find these boards, or how they find you? At this point, I feel like you've become part of the incredible story of The Tree, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd love to hear more. If Gourmet Guitars were still around, talk about a great segment.
