This will be a Penelope nylon string crossover. I love this guitar building stuff!

Second Small Jumbo Back

The second of the three BRW Josie small jumbos is back from the finisher. I'll be working on it this week to string it up!

We went with a burst on the neck with the dark matching the dark color of the BRW and the lighter to go with the lighter figuring of the BRW:

I'm very happy with how the spider web grain came up under finish:

And certainly the abalone always makes a great showing!

In the meantime, here are a couple pictures of the unfinished headstock:

I'm planning on doing the truss rod cover with the same Koa I used in the rosette. It will be getting black Schertler tuners with Black Ebony buttons.<snip>

Oh my! What a gorgeous headstock! With all this eye candy you are putting up, I expect drool rag stock to skyrocket. :D

Glad you like that headstock! I got all the frets in and the neck glued on this guitar today. I'm looking forward to getting the Schertler black tuners installed.
They will be another black element that will really go with the headstock and guitar in general.

Thanks!
Mark

+1. This is SICK. Can't wait to see what you are going to build out of it.

Oops I must have missed this! Wow...that abalone is incredibly colourful!! Is it just the photograohy or is it just something special? Either way I love the abalone treatment.

Thanks Marcus and TomB'sox!

I use a select green paua abalone which really does have a lot of color. Of course it really stands out with a dark background too.

Today I got this guitar all fretted and am gluing up the neck:

New Headstock

I got the tuners and truss rod cover set up on the black ebony parlor today.
I'm very happy how this guitar balances and the new headstock I hope will become quite popular. I will be doing a solid version on a current build.
Here are a couple pictures:

Here is a picture of the Koa neck. I selected wood with some flame but, not so much figure that we'd have to worry about stability. This has maple laminates bordering a black ebony center:

Love the new headstock, Mark--I'm sure it will become a big hit! The contrasts with the koa, maple, and ebony make it very striking indeed.....

TomB'sox 06-09-2015 04:37 PM

I never intend to post, but every time I look at your new posts, I must reply. That headstock is gorgeous, I love all the colors, the contrast etc. Fantastic.
