What FTC regulations are you referring to? I know nothing about that.

My understanding is something along the lines that with a Publicly Traded company. That you have to bring a new product to market within the quarter year time frame, in which it is announced

I didn't know that.

So this just came out about all out performance ( although 400 instances of Boom would make me Bonkers) :D

The performance is impressive and if one is doing predominately audio, the stock graphics card would likely suffice and knock $2400 of the price of the machine in the article , plus there is rumored Apple option "in between" the bundled graphics and the Pro Vega. And for example for someone like me where I rarely have more than 8 to 12 tracks max and often less, perhaps the bundled 8 core processor may work great. Interesting to contemplate

Had it come out two years earlier, I'd likely have made the plunge. But as it sits, I have a 2018 iMac that I maxed out except for the ram which is at 32gb and last summer I built a top notch PC for everything else I do. Between the two, I have $6k invested. If two years earlier I'd sat down and done the math, the Mac Pro likely wins out since my personal philosophy is to invest in quality rather than cheap out.

Impressive demo, thanks.

I shot and edited my first video this weekend. Simple, only 2 cameras, but I shot them both as 4K which tended to give the old Mac some pause. The whole thing went rather unremarkably, which was good! I barely thought about the computer until I was done, when I suddenly realized how fast and easy it all went, from importing, to editing, to exporting the final video. No lags, no waiting on rendering, the machine just basically stayed out of my way. I'll be interested in seeing if that changes when there are more video streams involved.

For me as stated early on, I am hoping to get another 3 to 5 years out of my current 2010 5.1 MP. At that point (and because it looks like Mojave is the last OS my machine will be capable of ), I will have to evaluate if keeping PTHD Native is something I think I want to do or just go to regular PT or even Studio One . If I decide to keep up with HD Native then I will definitely consider a new MP.

Great please keep us informed. I assume some of that video performance is related to the Pro Vega also ?

I'm not sure. I just did a render/save of that video while watching the CPU and GPU performance monitors. Both got used, but both appeared to have lots of headroom left! They both actually seemed to be almost idling. Next time I edit something, I'll remember to bring those up. Might be interesting to see when they're working.

The other options for Audio focused users might include the iMac or Mac mini BUT currently the Mini does not offer the i9 processor option and is 6 core max (perhaps that has to do with heat buildup ?) Where the iMac has i9 and 8 core max . But with both offering TB 3 connections that does make external SSD possibilities (like the new Samsung X5 TB3 external SSD) equal to the performance of internal 16 lane PCIe SSD's...... the big question would be possible video editing . The Mini I would want would be at $2500 and the iMac $3800.... Hopefully by the time I am ready, the specs for both will have moved up the processors and graphics as well. Or the MP will offer a wider range of base config options and be more enticing price wise

For those wondering why you need more RAM, here's a cute demo of what the 1.5TB on this machine does :-) . Actually at the end, he does talk about the benefits of all that RAM for music production (sample libraries)

RAM is inexpensive now compared to a year or two ago. I just added 32 GB more DDR4 to my PC, for a total of 64 GB. I did this mainly for some large sample libraries that I occasionally use.
