A Star Is Born

Anybody else watch the newest remake, and even enjoy it?
I saw this movie and enjoyed it for what it was.
Read that Bradley Cooper took intense lessons for 18 months in order to play his own guitar parts.

Haven't seen it yet...but we've seen the promos on TV and my wife is making a good bit of noise about wanting to go, so I'll probably be buying tickets soonish.
;)

I've seen the promotions for it... But I really have no desire to pay to see another retread of a classic movie.

My wife and I went to an afternoon showing to avoid crowds, and this is really a pretty good movie...not as good as the original, but IMO definitely better than the Streisand rehash some years back...

While she won't win any acting awards, Lady Gaga didn't embarrass herself, and reminded me again that she's one of the best singers in the business these days...

Bradley Cooper took singing lessons for a year and a half, did all his own singing, and Gaga convinced him to film all the singing live...

Cooper also directed the movie himself, so overall, I think it came out pretty well, and worth seeing...

Never saw the previous two but I have to say this current version is really good. Bradley Cooper is a top notch actor and getting better. He played an ok guitar, considering he learned just for this movie. Lady Gaga plays a terrific part and she is totally believable. There will surely be some award heading their way for this one. I’d give it 8.5 out of 10.

I saw an interview with Bradley Cooper and he said that Lucas Nelson, (Willie's son), is playing on some of the scenes and Cooper is acting, even though he was making the correct chord shapes, Nelson's playing is what you are hearing.

I haven't seen the movie, but still impressive that Cooper could learn enough to be passable for some of the scenes. From the clips I have seen, he has a good voice too.

Will probably watch it this weekend. Wife been making sad puppy eyes about it.

I thought the Streisand/Kristofferson version was the original, but I was just a kid when that came out.

This is such an iconic American movie that I think remaking it will flop, even if it is good. It's like remaking Saturday Night Fever or Apocalypse Now or The Shining. These are things you just don't touch.

But when I saw (on a billboard) that Lady Gaga was starring, my immediate reaction was "if anyone can pull it off, it's her". She has all the talent to do this.

But when I saw Bradley Cooper was cast, I thought "yep....it's doomed".

It's running at the discount theater already in our town.

Mine, too. Sam Elliot’s in it too. That’s enough, even if she wasn’t a Lady Gaga fan.

#2 at the box office and 90% on rotten tomatoes. Not staggering but doubt it will flop.

They could remake Sat Night Fever a million times and I still wouldn't even watch the first one. :)
But to an extent I get what you mean.
I watched a Bruce Willis remake of Death Wish last night and it just wasn't the same...
Thing is, lots of folks either never saw the other A Star Is Born or don't care since they are so old.
I enjoyed the movie, cliches and all.

When I saw the trailer, my immediate reaction was that Cooper looks more like The Dude than Kris K. I like Bradley Cooper, he gets a pass from me for American Sniper and American Hustle. Both very good movies. Will probably not see this one.

So just came back from watching it and I was impressed to say the least by Lady Gaga. I knew her singing was gonna be superb, but I didn’t expect her to be a darn good actress. Bradley Cooper was at his best too. Movie might not win any best picture awards, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the cast, including Lady Gaga is nominated.
