NGD - Maton EBW808
NGD - Maton EBW808, deep body 00 size, Australian Blackwood top, back, sides, Red Beech neck, striped Ebony bridge, fretboard, rope binding, AP5-Pro pickup.
Kudos, Maton - faultless build quality, setup.....sounds sensational acoustically and plugged! Hardwood top, so...bluesy! Bluesy fingerpicker!:D The blurb from one at Artisan Guitars sums it up nicely, I thought: MATON GUITARS EBW808 BLACKWOOD 808 Simplicity and purity of tone lay at the heart of the Blackwood range of Guitars. Pure Blackwood tone -clear, bright trebles, strong mid range and full bass. The all Blackwood construction produces a unique compression, blending frequencies into a new, unique voice. While Brazilian rosewood remains the standard wood for comparing sounds made by guitars, many musicians choose the Victorian or Australian Blackwood as their guitar tonewood. The sounds and tones these guitars make is “sweet,” and distinct. It is different from the Brazilian rosewood tone, and adds a certain beauty and nuance to the tune and sound of the instrument. The proprietary Maton "808" body shape is similar, though slightly smaller that the US OM Model. However, the body depth of the 808 is substantially deeper. This is significant, as moving the top and back further apart enhances the bass element within the tonal character of the voicing (bracing technique), complimenting the different wood combinations. Constructed with Maton's AP5 Pro Pickup System (arguably the best acoustic pickup system in the world) you'll never have to worry about getting your Maton to sound great live! That is a handsome guitar! Congrats!!
I must try a Maton someday... not easy to find in these parts... |
Beautiful! I bought a related model, EBG808TE, a couple of weeks ago, and I absolutely love it. Mine has a Sitka spruce top and Queensland maple back and sides, so probably some differences. But the build quality and playability are similar, I bet. Enjoy!

They are fabulous beasts, the 808 Maton. My EBW808 is hardwood top, more like an all Koa guitar, I am told....but I don't think I have played a Koa guitar. BluesKing777. |

Does anyone know what the naming conventions are at Maton? I know 808 is the body size/shape, and TE stands for Tommy Emmanuel. What about EBW vs. EBG? Does the E mean electronics? Or something else? What about the other two letters?

Sweet! She’s a beauty. Congrats!
