Crazy Oak!

This amazing oak back belongs to a c. 1910 Lakeside parlor guitar. Make by Lyon and Healy in their Chicago factory, oak is generally interesting to look at but rarely this figured and uniform in grain. It was a nice surprise to uncover it under so many layers of dirt and grime.

That's A-OK OAK!

Really nice! Do you have anymore pictures of the rest of the guitar?

Thanks for sharing that. Oak is a rare bird in the guitar world, and I just always assumed it was to to its lack of “bend-a-bility” in the luthiers shop. Not so sure anymore. We had an oak fall in a storm 15 years ago, and I had it milled. Ought to be ready for the bandsaw by now,,,,

I think that is beautiful! What does the rest of the guitar look like (front)?

Speaking of Lakeside, Lakewood makes an oak guitar, the 35 series. It was at the tippy top of my short list a few years ago.

There are a few demos of the 35 series, and I think they sound great. https://www.lakewood-guitars.com/gui...od&tb_wood=oak

I wonder how much pore filler oak would require.

Johann Brentrup loved using oak for back & sides of his Larson inspired parlors & Grand Concerts. This is the back of the parlor I got from him. Amazing sounding little guitar. I've had it about a year and it's the one that gets played just about every day. https://i.postimg.cc/fTBdMw9N/15.jpg

Built myself an oak dread last year - it’s my preferred bluegrass weapon.
I don’t have the pics hosted anywhere, sorry.

John Arnold built a fine oak guitar as well. His was the inspiration for mine.

This is my FYLDE Alchemist "Single Malt" one of only two ever made and Roger said there will never be another as he does not have the size if wood pieces to make another ( see the smaller ARIEL on his site ) see the link below for My Alchemist. any questions just ask.

And then there's "Bog Oak," which Brook Guitars uses. I believe George lowden has built a few as well. It must be more plentiful on the other side of the pond.
