New John Kinnaird build

Hey gang. New John Kinnaird super Custom now in progress and on his bench.

John has kindly done threads on my three builds so far, but I am doing this one, as he is busy building! :)

this will have my full "Pablo Package":

Back, Arm and Cutaway bevels,
Chamfered, bull nosed body edges
sound port,
12 fret cut,
elevated floating Fretboard and
Carbon Fiber struts from neckblock to waist to free up the top.
asymmetrical super slim carve neck with a Hollow CF D-Tube and NO truss rod
Rolled Fretboard edges for comfort
Manzer Wedge. 3/4"
All linings and laminated neck/end blocks are also SC for lightest weight
New, adjustable neck feature.
And a new bigger shape, John's largest yet, somewhat similar to a Taylor X18/Grand Orchestra
16.75" LB. (So 1/2" wider than John's Round Peaks, which are 16.25")
After tapping, John went with a lattice braced back with Adi braces topped with a bit of Rosewood.

Plus all John's standard features like hide glue where it helps Tone, Super hard Jescar gold color frets, Laminated neck with plenty of CF, headstock front and backplate, and ducktail volute for super strong and lightweight headstock/neck, Gotoh 510 tuners, and lots more.

Built to be tuned down to D, Open D and Drop C, where my guitars live.
Super light, and designed and built to stun small animals senseless at 40 paces, while still sounding fat and responsive at low volume.

Ultra lightweight figured Spanish Cedar B/S, from David at (thank you David) Terra Tone Woods.
Hand selected from over 250 sets for Tap Tone, straight grain, quarter sawn, and figure. (John has one more set in his stash... Hint, Hint)

Link to John's thread about this Spanish Cedar: https://www.acousticguitarforum.com/...d.php?t=521078

One of John's killer WR Cedar tops.

I have requested the lightest build that will not explode on stage. ;). If this ever gets tuned up to E it will just be to jam with someone, and will get tuned back down as soon as possible.

Thank You John!!!

BTW, when this is done John will be doing a virtual twin for Steve/shorthand. The only differences will be no cutaway and a KILLER KOA back and sides from John's amazing wood locker. Mine is the prototype.... hahahahahahaha

Play on, my friends, and remain musical

Paul

Wow--16-3/4"!

If I know you, I'm betting those are going to be some super big, comfy bevels on this puppy!

Looking forward to following along.....

I love big bevels and I can not lie... haha. Thanks gentlemen! A pic of the back wood and the figured Curly Walnut for the binding and bevels.Attachment 25658Attachment 25659

Inside of box with big bevel linings and lattice bracing in.Attachment 25660. All linings and laminated end blocks are SC too.

Floating FB on my most recent custom from John. This one will be similar, and have similar curly Walnut binding/bevels.
Hard to tell, but the FB is completely free from the top. It has a CF strut that extends through a slot in the center of the top. I hope that makes sense.

Cheers

Paul

Back and sides. Obviously... the Dread shape is NOT what we are doing

This will be fun to watch, and when finished who cares how it sounds?
It will smell heavenly!

Paul, you didn’t hold back on any of the goodies on this one! Can’t wait to see how your dream guitar turns out... :)

Thanks!

Thank you all, gentlemen (and ladies)

John and I have been discussing some of these innovations for 4 different builds now. Some new stuff is always a thrill.

The comfort of my latest "Round Peak" is unsurpassed in my experience. It feels like a giant Stratocaster!
Volume is GIANT, and the tone is stellar, and continues to improve with each weeks gigs...

I am pretty jazzed here!

Lots still to do, like get him my fave neck from #128 to steal his own carve while widening it to 1 25/32" at the Nut and going a tad more asymmetrical to make up for extra 1/32" width (from 1.75")

I am fortunate he answers the phone when he sees my number! Lucky me

Cheers

Nice to have music and smell both. Often two of the last sensory systems to shut down. Have I been doing too many old folks gigs? I AM old folk. Hahahahaha

Thanks Steve for reminding me! I am sure JK is getting a nice olfactory experience!

Neck is laid up. Walnut in center for strength where it will attach to the body with John's new adjustable neck system. Plus it looks good between the SC. Lots of CF inside...Attachment 26410

A FUN weekend to all

This looks to be a fun build, can't wait to hear how it sounds.

Looks beautiful Paul! That walnut is gorgeous!! Your Round Peak is so light and comfortable to play and that JK tone is special. It's going to be fun to see how this one plays out!!

Thanks folks

Thanks Fred and Beth! I am with you both.

John is still contemplating the nuances of his new adjustable neck, and I believe is ordering some light weight bolts for it.

It will be adjustable from the outside of the axe.

More when I get updates.

Cheers

Rosewood bar for the sliding neck. John says the oils in the Rosewood will help it move a bit when needed.

The attachment bolts are Stainless Steel but only half the size and weight of John's normal ones. Here is a pic of both.

Interesting shot of the box inverted to show the neck block and CF rods to waist. Also the extra lining for the beveled cutaway.

And the rosette just arrived. It will be bordered in black, I believe.

Happy Labor Day to all

Paul
