Ok why didn't y'all tell me this? - Baggs Anthem SL
 

I stumbled across this little tidbit buried in a thread while I was reading through the forum last week, but someone was talking about moving the microphone part of the Anthem pickup. We've had several threads where we talk about not being able to mix in much of the mic signal because it gets really hot and trebly with too much mic in the mix. Well I saw in this thread that a couple of folks moved the mic from the front of the bridgeplate to the back of the bridgeplate. I think someone even moved it even farter to actually sit behind the bridgeplate. So yesterday when I changed strings I decided to try it and moved mine to the back edge of the bridgplate and holy Hannah it made a difference. Now I've got the mic set at just under 1/2 and it has a much richer and more acoustic amplified tone. I'm definitely happy with the change and wanted to share.

Cool discovery Mick. I'm not familiar with the installation of the Anthem mic. Is it glued, or double stick taped? If glued, how did you remove it? Thanks

It's standard 3M double sided foam tape. The tape from the factory is the white label with green writing. I usually use the red label stuff that has a higher sticky factor and hold a little better. The red label stuff is also pretty easy to peel off if you need to change something later. I buy it at Advance Auto.

That is a very interesting thread. I believe today is the first time I've read it. Now I'm considering moving the mic to position 3 on my next string change.

It shows how the three positions sound. I definitely prefer the alternate two to the one Baggs recommends. I often wish I had held on to the Anthem in order to try behind the bridge pins.

Thank you for posting this. One question in the diagram it shows the 3rd position as being on the bass side of the bridgeplate next to the brace. The OP in your link refers to it as being on the treble side. I liked the third position in his samples but they don’t sound like he’s on the treble side.

Maybe I am looking at the diagram wrong, but it looks like the treble side to me. Regardless though, I know the thread I posted, the user had it on the treble side. I know it doesn't sound like it, but I think it warms it up a bit.

There's a guitar played named Stephen Inglis who does an interesting thing with the Anthem/Lyric. He installs the Anthem SL in the correct tru-mic place and then has a second jack for the Lyric, which he installs along the treble bracing. He says it add some roundness to the treble strings.

ok I see it now. I was looking at the diagram like it was looking down at the bridge plate, instead of on the inside looking up at the bridge plate. It's a matter of perspective. I'll try it on the treble side at my next string change. Thank you for sharing this.

I moved the Mic behind the bridgeplate last week... Getting it further from the sound hole. I agree! This is the best place for me too. I have Mic at around 50% as well. Being able to dial in more mic makes the guitar sound so much more "alive" and it didn't sound too bright or "honky" for loss of better word.

I played a solo show last week in a small bar .. Martin SC13 into Bose Pro 8. Small, appreciative crowd. So I was able to experiment and my friend helped dial in the Bose EQ while I played. Everything was perfect.. Best sound hands down I have ever heard from this guitar. (My first Anthem SL ).

The photo below is the Martin SC13e and as you can see, it is a very narrow Bridgeplate.

Jake...it appears that you attached the Truemic to the back edge of the bridge on it's side....with the top of the mic (where the holes are) facing the lower bout of the guitar, rather than facing straight down as usual. Is that correct or is the picture angle fooling me?

That photo shows there is NOT enough room to place it on the bridgeplate of the Martin SC13.

I did speak to Caleb from Baggs and this is perfectly acceptable.

Sounds Great with it back there.. allows me to crank up the true mic more !
