Build Thread: Baranik PX, Blue Spruce and Mahogany

I'm a huge Baranik fan, as all 2 people that pay any regular attention to my posts will know. Although I liked Mike's Retreaux at HGF this year, I wanted something a hair larger, and I think the PX is pretty much right there. It's close to a 00 in dimensions, but features a 13 fret neck join, asymmetrical design, and 25.6" scale length. Mike will be starting on this guitar next week.

Specs:

Top: Blue spruce
B&S: Mahogany (possible lightly figured)
Decorations: Deco-style tiles with ivoroid
Bridge: Ebony, pyramid
Tuners: Open-back TBD
Frets: EVO
Nut: 1 3/4"
Saddle: 2 5/16"
Fretboard: Ebony
Side port: TBD
Case: Just in case

I will be shamelessly copying (or rather, Mike will be copying, nee repeating) the deco work he displayed on this amazing parlor at HGF.

I DESPISE the way most parlor guitars look, the body shape reminds me of an anorexic woman or something (I'm a dread guy!), but the fretboard inlays on this one somehow transform it for me so it looks very cool...

justonwo 12-30-2013 08:28 PM

In a guitar world where the dread seems to be the standard, parlors are viewed as oddities (though of course not on this forum). I'm reading a history of Martin guitars before the Civil War, and that shape pretty much started it all. Agreed, the deco tiles are something else.

Very nice choice Juston. I am looking forward to Mike's photos and your restrained and sober build commentary over coming weeks. Happy New Year too!

If I'm not mistaken, the guitar in the photos how resides with my buddy Phil (riorider). It's an amazing little guitar, and you're in for a treat!

Very very nice indeed! Love the tile inlay.

Whoo Hoo!

That "B" on the headstock would make any graphic designer giddy. It's really tasty...

Judging by your signature I'd say you're looking at a pretty nice next few years! If my wife would allow it I'd be doing the exact same thing.

Enjoy every moment of it!

Wicked inlays... Looking forward to seeing this one coming together.

Congratulations Juston. I can't wait to see this build come together.

Oh man... You are one lucky devil!

Out of curiosity, was the parlor above the 18th Retreux he built? Or is that a coincidence with the B logo on the headstock?

Regardless, the guitar is going to be a beauty with some undoubtedly awesome tone! Keep us posted on the build so that we can live vicariously through you. :D

Beautiful headstock design.

I don't think so. I'm pretty sure he's built dozens if them. That's just a stylized "B."
