Growing up in Scotland, I still remember scrounging and stealing wood to make our giant neighbourhood bonfire. And then making "the Guy" to burn on the fire. Also letting off a bunch of fireworks.
I dont know if the practise still continues today? I imagine not to the same extent due to fire dangers, danger to kids etc.
