Dion 2020 NAMM/Boutique Guitar Showcase guitars

With summer behind me and the garden nearly completely wrapped up it suddenly feels like NAMM isn’t that far away.

For this years show I’ll be bringing two instruments, both with euro maple back and sides and Italian spruce soundboards.

Here’s the material!

Wow! Can't wait to follow this thread! Not sure where you're sourcing your Euro maple but all of your maple instruments have been stunning!

My No. 4 in birdseye maple is a fabulous guitar. Dion, what model will you build with the birdseye maple above?

Thanks!! I bought this wood from Bachman tonewoods in Italy.

Glad to hear you’re loving your guitar, I’m thrilled you’ve got it!

Both of these are going to be in the same model as yours. I’m just stuck on it, I like the lines so much.

My aesthetic sense is to always restrain myself from ornamentation. So much so that I spent most of the day agonizing over weather this .5mm back strip was too much.

I love a good minimalist sensibility but I think that this back strip is a perfect way to offset the simplicity and beauty of the wood. Introduces just enough contrast to make it interesting while keeping the elegant understated look. My two cents.

Best,
Jayne

I feel the same, it’s nice to hear it from others. Thanks for the reply, let me know how you like it as it comes together!

Progress! I seem to only take photos when the sun shines , I hear that’s the time to make hay.

Blocks are in, rims joined up. Rosettes inlaid, heading towards soundboard bracing.

Here are a few photos of the week thus far.

Structured side before it meets its mate.

It’s been cloudy, making for less desirable photo conditions. Here’s a quick shot of part of the bracing, nearly fully cleaned.

Beautiful work!

I don't generally like backstrips but prefer them on curly wood in that the curl never entirely lines up.

Guitars44me 11-10-2019 07:15 PM

Yum

Beautiful Maple! Woohoo

I like the slim backstrip too. Looking FINE

Thanks!

Same here. These ones felt right, the strip complimented the wood rather than distracting from it.
