Kraus Guitars 12fret OO, gorgeous koa
 

Here is a Kraus Guitars 12 fret OO guitar. Red spruce top, koa back and sides, Indian rosewood trim, curly mahogany neck.

For looks, it is almost impossible to beat Koa. You don't see it paired with Adk too often for some reason. It should sound great. I certainly like it anyhow.

I've always found Koa, particularly highly figured Koa, to be quite beautiful. I've actually never played a Koa guitar, but hear they can be excellent when build by the right hands.

It is true that you never seem to see Koa paired with Adk, and I never thought about that until you brought that up, I wonder why this is the case. Just not a traditional pairing I suppose.

This is surprising news to me as I think Adi is the ideal choice for Koa . . . after all Koa.

I do believe quality koa can be on par with any wood for for guitar making. I made the guitar pictured above for a local musician. Three days after delivering the guitar to him he called me to say "Bill, this thing sounds better than my '35", referring to his comparable sized mahogany 1935 guitar made by that famous large company we all know. I thought it sounded better also, and I can say that because I had his '35 in my shop while I was making this one, and got to compare them for a week side by side. I also had this happen when I received a call from a person who played a koa OM I have consigned in a shop. He asked to play a 1930's mahogany OM. They pulled down the OM for him, but also placed my guitar in a in a stand, and another OM from a well established luthier. He played all three and told me he thought mine sounded the best by far. So there you have two instances of a new koa guitar being very comparable to well aged, high quality mahogany guitars.
Yes I'm sure koa can make a fantastic sounding guitar that leaves nothing to be desired.
