Cordoba C7 strange buzzing

Hello
I just got a C7, not new but in a great condition it was in a shop as display guitar
I have a strange problem with the A string,
when I play a string far left from the fret or even in the middle of the fret
I get a buzz coming from the bridge.
if I play close to the fret (closer to the sound hole direction) I get no buzz.
it only happens on A string (all of its frets)
I guess I can use the truss rod to make an upbow but I already have 4mm hight on the 12th fret

any ideas what can it be?
Thanks

RT...

Check the soundboard and see if has swollen or sunk in due to humidity. But I suppose any change in this respect would affect all the strings, not just one.

Check the bridge and especially the saddle, is it flat all across, or has a groove developed under the A-string.

Also how old are the stings? They might need replacing.

Are they the right tension for your model? Cordoba website may have that information. Call them at 310-586-1180.

Where and who did you purchase the guitar from? Contact them

Also, if there is an authorized repair shop near you, take it there and have a pro take a look for you.

Good luck

Not bridge buzz if your description is accurate. More likely on the fret itself buzz.

I'm gonna second everything Always Learning said. Also I hope you have a good guitar case (or perfect humidity), especially if you have the cedar top. You can move a beam from a penlight back and forth along the length of the bridge to see if the wood is starting to warp or the bridge is starting to lift.
I suppose you could also see it as a learning opportunity to press down as close to the fret as possible (like they say :)).

Thanks for replying
the guitar is realy in a new condition I checked again the bridge ,saddle & soundboard as you recommended and they are straight
no grooves in the saddle too. I got it online so I guess they put a low grade new strings.
my best bet is a problem with the strings I'm waiting for new EJ45 hard tension from amazon I hope it will fix this, if not maybe I'll take it for a setup.

This happened to me on my classical too. I tried everything. I put a little wax on the underside of the saddle, I switched to Savarez hard tension strings, I talked to many people. Not much improvement. In the end I found that I was not really fretting correctly, especially with bar chords. I had to get used to the fact that fretting a nylon string classical is different than a steel string. Playing in classical position with the guitar on my left leg elevated higher than parallel to the floor helped a lot. I know just what you mean...it sounds like its coming from the bridge. Paying a lot of attention and experimenting with your fretting may help. I do however like the Savarez strings ...normal or hard tension.

From the original poster's description the cause of the buzz it clearly at the fret and not the bridge.

One may hear the sound near the bridge (basically the guitar top area) since that is where whatever
vibrations occuring in the string have been converted into an audible sound by guitar top vibrations.

the wierd thing is that it only happens with the A string
I always try to fret as close to the fret as I can but its not always possible for me. I ordered D'Addario & Augustine strings with different tension, will update when they get here. Thanks

Can’t help at all with the OP’s issue but had something similar with my Bautista Iranzo. I did a set up on it (first time I’ve ever done one). Once completed, I tuned it up again. Got a slight buzzing on the A string. Mostly when open but a tiny one when fretted. Panic set in, thinking I’d made an error in my setting up. Could see no reason for it. Was thinking that I would have to start all over again. The following day I tried it again, no buzz. Fixed my Snark to the headstock to check tuning, and A had a buzz again! Removed said tuner from headstock, buzz vanished! My tuner causes the A string to buzz!

Thanks I'll give it a look

The FIRST thing you always do with buzz issues is... change the string. Then, go from there. If your car pulls to one side or has a shimmy, first thing you do is check the air pressure in all your tires.

Try tightening the tuner knob screws. This fixed my Cordoba pesky buzz.

I agree that trying a different string should be near the top of the list. If you're
using Savarez, try maybe a D'Addario. Not that the latter is "better", but it
is typically stiffer. There can be an issue with the "zip" tone that runs along the
length of the string causing problems, though it's more common on
the D string.

GuitarsWeB 04-26-2022 04:30 PM

When you wrap a D string, don't cut the string, wrap ALL the extra string around the roller. That will help eliminate some strange noise a D can make. A D'Adddario tech told me this years ago. The extra wraps adds mass to the string ???

RT321 04-27-2022 10:46 AM

today I changed the strings to EJ45TT normal tension
that didnt help much, it's not an annoying buzz but it's there

maybe someone can spot what it is by listening to a sample?

I've uploaded a sample to soundcloud

https://soundcloud.com/rt321/a-string

the 1st 4 notes are played close to the fret - no buzzing

the next 4 notes are played away from the fret you can hear a small rutteling sound after I play the note.

also checked the tuning pegs like someone said it looks solid.

Thanks
