What's your opinion on "Hologram Tours"?

Now when a famous performer dies a company can produce a "show" of them performing the songs "on stage".
But they are not on stage.
They are dead.
What the audience pays to "see" and applaud for is a hologram, usually with back their living up band.

How do you feel about this?

Personally, I find it creepy.
I'd never go to one, but to each their own.
Clearly lots of people must like the idea.

The below article is about the current hologram tour of Whitney Houston.
Others dead performers mentioned are opera singer Maria Callas, and Amy Winehouse.

... a penny for your thoughts.

I lot of people paid to see the movie about Freddie Mercury. I've also seen a pink Floyd tribute band. I think this is just a slight variation on those.

I've never been to one. Probably not my cup of tea, but having said that I've seen some 'live' performers that we're anything but.

It's alright, I suppose, if you want to see hologram recordings. Just remember that your hologram can't hear you clap.

Our daughter is getting "dragged" to Vegas with her boyfriend's family. They bought really expensive tickets to go see Shania Twain. She doesn't even sing. She isn't being deceptive, she is very clear about it on her website - she is lipsyncing on-stage.

I would never pay to see a live artist lip sync to their own music.

I would never pay to see a hologram of an artist lip sync.

(except maybe from curiosity for the image quality and special effects)

Put me in the I don't think so category. Kinda diminishes the legacy of the performer in my opinion.

A tribute band/group is one thing. A hologram seems to me that the estate (or content owners) are milking what they can - I get it, it could be a huge cash cow, but still......

I wouldn't go to a hologram 'concert'. I'm not even fond of tribute band shows where the band tries to mimic the originals. I did go to see 'Rain', the touring Beatles tribute, and it was good, but nothing I would repeat.

Some of my favorite people are holograms.

There’s nothing like the real thing baby...

I would pay for an interactive hologram game but a hologram as a replacement for a performer,...... just not My cup of tea

Not a fan. Cool technology, but does this even remotely remind anyone of the real Frank Zappa?

Jeff Scott 05-22-2019 01:18 AM

Frank didn't look like that when I saw him in 1972.

I expect living stars to start putting their wishes regarding hologram tours in their wills.
Hopefully some will prevent greedy heirs from cashing in and direct profits to legit charities.
If I was a big star I'd do that.
