Looks for- Acoustic with Growl

Hi Acoustic Addicts-

I am looking for an acoustic guitar with growl, especially one that will be good for songs with drop d tuning. So something that has growl but also adds to those kinds of bass heavy, round chord tones.

Any recommendations?

A guitar made of laminated woods will have fewer overtones and more growling characteristics.

Probably a lot won't agree, but I find OM-28 to be quite satisfying in the Growl department. Really sexy growl, but a growl all the same. Someday I'ma buy one.

Price range?

Sowme Furchs tend to growl.

Is there a sound clip or video that has this "growl" that you speak of?

My Breedlove Premiere Auditorium Rosewood has growl when I drive it hard.

000-15sm. Can't think of a guitar with more growl than that.

Something made out of "dogwood"? and played with a Red Bear?

Poor jests I know - I just don't really know what you mean by growl. Sounds like distortion to me.

Are you looking for a bass heavy sound ?

There are some vids of Clapton all by himself, Drifting Blues comes to mind, in his senior years. He growls really well on his various forms of 000-28s.

Growl comes from the player not the guitar.

Can someone please define 'growl' ?

I've heard the term used, sometimes with a Martin referenced, but haven't a clue what it might sound like.

Perhaps a heavy bass rumbling?

My Aussie growls at night when he hears sounds that he deems inppropriate -
He's usually quite unpleasant and perturbed when he goes to see what caused the noise.

Be a shame if it was some poor guy playing a bass heavy Martin guitar - - - ;)

...i always described the tone of my Santa Cruz OM/PW as a throaty growl...especially when you dig in..kinda like the top of the guitar is being overdriven...but not quite...and yeah it excelled at drop D and open tunings where the bass response became even fatter...

Martin 000-28 EC. Now THAT is some growl!
