AGF Showcase of Talent for November 2014: Gender Bender songs
For this month, the topic is gender bender songs. So, record yourself playing a song that was either written by or recorded by someone of the opposite sex. So, men play a song popularized by a woman, and women play songs popularized by a man, etc. Although it is not a requirement, try to keep the lyrics as original as possible. Don't try to rearrange it so it's now about your favorite girl, etc.
The SOT is not a competition. At the end, I will draw a name from those who posted a video or sound clip. That person will win a $25 gift card. Any genre is fine, and any method of playing is fine, as long as an acoustic guitar is featured. It has to be by YOU and it can include accompaniment. Beginners and experts are welcomed. Have fun everyone! I'm looking forward to some good submissions this month! As an early warning, next month we will be working on songs about winter and/or the Holidays. Have fun everyone! Todd |
OK, this one was a big country hit by the lovely Lacy J. Dalton:
16th Avenue ... a song about music row down in Nashville. This was recorded live with my now dead music partner of many years, Sean Bohannon, on mandolin. :) |
If I had any recording equipment I'd be right in it! I'd do Fast Car by Tracy Chapman. I think it's the only song I play that was written by a woman.. Maybe someone else will do that.. It's a modern classic after all..

I have decided on mine. Now I just need to figure out the best key and get something recorded.

As a reminder, if you post a soundcloud recording, also include a direct link. Tapatalk won't pick up the embedding.

Covered Stevie Nicks' "Landslide" a couple months ago for my eight year-old daughter who heard it on the radio and was totally smitten. Stevie knocked it out of the park on this one.

"Keep Holding On" and another "When You're Gone" are songs from her 2007 album "The Best D*mn Thing" and are two of my three favorite songs of hers (the third being "I'm With You"). I learned it soon after I first heard it in late 2007. |
Very nice - both of you guys.
Sombras I had not heard this version. You never cease to amaze. |
Great job, Jeremy!
Thanks very much, Sal! |
I got something. Just got to record it.

The Way It Goes
I tried a new acquired taste of mine - Gillian Welch. My voice was giving out and scratchy - football game today. Anyways here goes!

Great theme! Is it okay to post a song written by a woman/man writing team?
