I did close the Mini-D!

Looking good Bruce! Happy New Year, sir!

The top of the Mini-D is bound. When done it will be a close approximation of style 42.
https://sexauerluthier.com/LP21/318/topbound.jpg https://sexauerluthier.com/LP21/318/topbundport.jpg And the Travel guitar is closed: https://sexauerluthier.com/LP21/319/closedfront.jpg https://sexauerluthier.com/LP21/319/closedback.jpg https://sexauerluthier.com/LP21/319/closedside.jpg https://sexauerluthier.com/LP21/319/closedgraft.jpg |
And the back of the Mini-D is also bound. Both of the current builds are getting Snakewood binding, though the WRX will have no purfling, except for the top.

The Catalpa WRX binding is going well, and so much quicker on the WRX that it is. Here's the top, complete less a bit more sanding:
https://sexauerluthier.com/LP21/319/boundtop.jpg This miter is as good as I get. Also, the Catalpa's medullary display is visible in this picture. It is quite a delicate figure! https://sexauerluthier.com/LP21/319/boundtopmiter.jpg |
You said there was no upcharge for Brazilian Mini-D Bruce. Have you seen the similar, but slightly less beautiful, set that Allied are selling for $4000?

I looked at the Allied set, and the back appears similar to the one on the current Mini-D. The sides appear to be better. They are asking about what i exact I'd have charged for it, which means I could never buy it as there'd be nothing left on the table for me. I bought the +/- 22 sets of BRW I still have on hand about 20 to 25 years ago, and there is something on the table for me. I have been charging the same up-grade price for it since I originally purchased the stuff, which made it del even before I offered to include it at base. Only about half of my BRW inventory is being included in my current offer, I do have some"better" stock. Edited to quote my earlier comment: "I don't charge what I might for the "second rate" stuff, and in fact I am currently including it, an example of what I grade as AA, as a standard option at my new price point. No upcharge!" |
THe box to be Mini-D is complete except for the dovetail cavity. I spent most of today (Friday 1/7) binding the Catalpa, and managed only to get the tail graft into the FT-15-D, as you see here:

I am about to complete the Pernambuco L00 I built last month. Today I buffed it out and glued the neck to the body. Here is a shot of the simple Rosette:
https://sexauerluthier.com/LP21/316/rosette.jpg I also put the second coat of finish on the All-Catalpa CN-WRX. The head plates are Myrtle, and along with the back and sides I did stay them with 2 applications of the P Juice. https://sexauerluthier.com/LP21/319/2ndcoatfront.jpg https://sexauerluthier.com/LP21/319/2ndcoatback.jpg https://sexauerluthier.com/LP21/319/2ndcoatport.jpg https://sexauerluthier.com/LP21/319/2ndcoathead.jpg |
I trust you were being tongue in cheek there, that rosette looks anything but simple with all those layers!
|
Compared to what the Somogynista’s do, or a Martin-esque 3 ringer, it is simple. It is also more efficient than a lot of rosettes I see pictures of. It is almost as though people have forgotten the function in favor of the frills!

That Myrtle head plate is killer!

Simple and beautiful little beast. And I am of the growing opinion that all guitars should be multi-scale.
