Looks amazing! Did you buy the parts individually or do you have a complete Eric Johnson model that you started as a base?

Chickee 07-21-2021 06:02 PM

That’s a real sweetheart Rocky! You really put a lot of thought into your build. I’m not familiar with the company that did the pickups. Can you tell us a little about them? The only thing I would have to change for me would be a thinner neck profile. I can’t get my pudgy mitt around that medium C shape so many Fenders use as standard issue now.
Best of luck with that pro caliber Strat!

Nice job, that looks great. It becomes pretty special when you put it together yourself.

Wow, Daniel!

That Strat looks fantastic! Good for you! I am super impressed!

I just had the Eric Johnson body Dru, and I started from there. What I was really trying to do is build something with the look of 1956 Stratocaster, especially the 2 tone sunbursts of that era.

Hey Chickee, EP Customs is a pickup winder out of San Rafael California. I think it’s just a husband and wife team. They do excellent vintage style pickups I learned of them through Reverb when I looking for some pickups for my Jaguar build that I did a few months ago. https://reverb.com/shop/epcustom

Thank you, and I agree, because you get to make all the decisions on the parts that you want, and you get to put that extra little love into it, which may not get with a factory instrument.

Thank you Glenn, I really like this guitar. Last night I plugged it into my Vox AC15 amp and just lost hours playing and having fun.

What fret wire size do you have on that 7.5 radius fretboard?

They just list fret size as "vintage" on the Fender website, but on the non-lacquer version of this neck the spec is... 0.045" high x .103" wide

Looks very nice and I bet it plays and sounds good too. Congratulations and thanks for sharing!

Hey Rocky, if i may be so bold, where did you come across an Eric Johnson body? I would love to build a tribute guitar like that, but dressed out to my vision of fit and finish. Like a one piece quarter sawn maple compound 9”-14” skinny 1.65” neck with noiseless pickups and ceramic coated springs for the decked out trem. Teflon saddles, nut, string trees and of course locking tuners. HooHah, i would never come out of the playroom!

I ordered my MIM white Strat body from Stratosphere back in 2007 or 2008. They made a success out of selling guitar parts such as bodies, necks, bridges, and everything else.
