Classical guitar for the campfire and parties: 200$-500$
 

I'm looking form a semi-cheap light-weight classical guitar(around $400) that i feel safe bringing around to campfires or to the beach (so not too expensive). It's okay if it's used. All i want is that it's not to heavy, has reasonable low action and is good sound quality for the money .


So far I've considered the following guitars
Yamaha CG122MC
Yamaha C-45
Yamaha C-40, C70 or C-80
Cordoba C5


Why i want it to be light weight?
I have an Yamaha Silent SLG200NW but it's quite heavy and if it's not properly supported
it causes a lot of tension in my left hand to hold it upright. I want somethign i can just put on my lap and play
without it being too heavy.

You might find a La Patrie Etude meets your needs. I had one and found it to be a really sweet sounding guitar. They’re solidly built, and even have a truss rod so you can set the action pretty low and use high tension strings if you like. They’re pretty light weight with a solid cedar top and laminated cherry back and sides. La Patrie is part of the Godin family and seems to enjoy their reputation for quality. You can usually find them used in good condition for around $200 and new for $400.

If that still doesn't get you where you want to be my favorite low cost nylon string guitar is a Yamaha CG172SF. Or the earlier version CG171SF. Cypress lam back and sides, solid spruce top. Main difference is 172 is satin, 171 is gloss. That and the early 171s were made in Taiwan and not mainland China which may make a difference if you worry about country of origin.

They usually play well with decent action, are lightweight (about 3 lbs) and sound decent if not great.

The La Patrie Etude looks good and from youtube reviews sounds good too.
I think the Yamaha CG172SF looks nice too, it's just that it's flamenco which is not so much for me at this point on my guitar journey :)

Look on Craig's List there are lots of decent classicals for sale priced from $80-$150. I picked up a solid top Takamine G128S for $80.00 with a gig bag. That was the sellers asking price.

Within your price range.

You cannot go wrong with the Cordoba C5, or even the 7/8 sized C5 Dolce. These guitars might be the best of the bunch at their respective prices. The Dolce would be great for taking along, since it is ever so slightly smaller and has a comfortable 24.8 inch scale length. The true rods in the Cordoba necks would be an advantage for a guitar that will be out on the beach and subject to greater than usual variances in temp and humidity. C5 models are lightweight and pleasant sounding guitars. I just gave our oldest daughter my C5 Limited model. She is really liking it. Now I need to replace it.... maybe with a C5 Dolce ;)
