World Series - Astros/Nationals

Astros / Nationals start tomorrow night. Do we have any fans of either team? Who you rooting for?

CoffeeFan 10-21-2019 06:24 PM

I'm a Mets fan. I haven't been happy in 33 years...

I guess I'll have to go with the Nationals. And that's just fine with me. I'm looking forward to some good ball.

Like both teams. Not sure if the Nationals ever won a World Series, if not, then.....

Jim Owen 10-21-2019 07:41 PM

You’re right.

Not even when the Expos had Pedro and Vlad. So they’re due.

This will be (on paper) the best pitching matchup since Yankees/Diamondbacks. I’m hoping we go 7 games.

The best move the Nationals never made was not re-signing Harper. Wonder what the .250 hitter is thinking now that his former team is in the World Series.

Fogducker 10-21-2019 09:32 PM

I'm sure the many fans of the Detroit Tigers will be watching the Series that, like the playoffs, has many "rejects" from the Detroit team, Scherzer, Verlander, among others that management considered too expensive or didn't fit their plans for the plunge towards the dregs area of baseball.

The late Mike Ilitch of Little Caesar pizza put together a team to make a serious run at the title and he did----but failed, so now they are into "rebuilding" with barely minor league talent.

I'll be watching, the Super Bowl too (Lions won last back in 1957), I enjoy watching great games and am resigned to the fact they won't be from the Detroit sports companies who don't have to win much to enjoy the financial largesse.

I’m a Phillies fan (ugh!) but I will say I’m rooting for the Astros if for no other reason to get the candid shots of Kate Upton cheering in the stands!

I thought not re-signing Harper was a good move too, but he is a career .276 hitter. I hope he takes a moment to reflect on the success of the Nats this year and maybe the fact that his 2019 Phillies were only one game better than in 2018. As talented a ballplayer as he is, he just doesn't seem to make a team better. Great players do that.

Personally, the way the Astros handled a very good Yankees team, I see them taking this in 4 or 5 games, but who knows.

And, to answer a previous question, the Nationals have not been in a world series before and I think it is the second time they have made the playoffs.

Ilitch was into it....and his Pizza wasn't bad either. As a Detroit expatriate, I concur with your "rejects" review. The teams you "inherit" at birth stay with you.;)

I'm rooting for the Nationals, but this will be a tough row to hoe.

westview 10-22-2019 05:12 PM

Not an Astro fan. I'll be pulling for the Nationals.

7 games would be a great series!

Game one is in the books. Nat's up 1-0.
