Here are the last steps before binding the guitar body. There is binding that goes onto the point of the cut away: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...67d6c4df_c.jpg And the end graft needs to go in too: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...92a056e8_c.jpg Thanks for viewing! Mark |
Binding
Here goes the binding which is pommel figured Sapele like the back and sides. I'm putting the Blue color on the red back:
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...f4c77877_b.jpg And the Red color against the top and side Blue color: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...8bcc0db0_b.jpg I have done this same wood with color contrast before and am more than happy to do it again! |
Once again, such well-thought out color choices. It's always a pleasure to view your craft.

Feeding off other builds I have going I'm adding a medallion to the rosette on this guitar: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...421eb3cb_c.jpg It is an Amboyna burl cabochon set on a Cocobolo diamond frame. I'll echo this with an Amboyna end pin in a Cocobolo diamond inlay |
Setting up Neck
Moving onto the neck, it will be curly Hard Maple with an Amboyna burl center laminate:
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...bd006fd3_c.jpg The fretboard is figured Cocobolo bound in spalted pommele Sapele, The fret markers have silver purfling: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...c5e15c4e_c.jpg The fretboard end is a newer design which I think we'll be seeing more of. In addition to this guitar I am bringing another 0000 grand auditorium guitar to the show. The other is the Bloodwood Greta I have previously been posting about in combination with all of the hand tools I have been working with. Same guitar model with a very different presentation. Here is a picture of the fretboard I am working on for this Bloodwood guitar: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...370f8c4d_c.jpg |
They both look OUTSTANDING. The folks at B.I.G. are going to be in for quite the treat!!!! Love the fretboard markers in wrapped in silver and the medallion!

I'm moving along getting guitars ready for the B.I.G. show. I have the neck carved for the Bloodwood grand auditorium Greta model. I have clean up work to do on the body and it will be ready for finish! https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...9ffa4dda_b.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...419e53a9_c.jpg Mark |
Dang you, Mark!
I have this far-away gaze and now know why La'Gioconda smiles as she does! Mmm. |
