I can’t recall seeing a white guard on a “hog-top” before, but it works beautifully, lending just the right amount of vintage mojo. The intricate Ziricote fretboard further signals that although in touch with its “department store” past, this instrument is all class. It’s an all-Mahogany guitar for the mahogany connoisseur. Like a peaty whiskey, its earthiness and complexity are deeply linked.

The size is extremely comfortable. It feels great on the knee, but even better with a strap. It’s easy to move with, easy to milk for nuance. It gives the player a sense of total control. The short scale length allows for bluesy bends and gives a general liveliness to the sound.

The individual notes are well-defined, clear, and direct. The decay is smooth and relatively quick, making it perfect for fingerstyle folk and blues. With chords, however, the overtones come alive and imbue the tone with a sweet harmonic shiver. The contrast is very musical and the tunes practically write themselves. This guitar already knows how to tell a good story.
