THE REAR VIEW

Some of you may recall I had a car wreck last year where my back was broken and a one of a kind commissioned Yairi I inherited was demolished. 6 weeks ago I had my 2nd surgery as a result, a grueling 9 level spinal fusion. The pain was out of this world and I was egregiously undermedicated for it. I wrote my first new song in a few months about of all things my pain. Possibly a first of a song about surgical pain. It's called THE REAR VIEW.

It hurt, it hurt
That's all I could say
It seemed like the feeling
Would never go away
The whiskey & pills
No longer would do
It was a bonafide
This getting' over you

You cut me like a knife
In a surgeon's trained hand
When the bleeding stopped
Was when I took a stand
You'll never again
No never get a chance
Because I hate your tune
And we'll never get to dance

(CHORUS)
I WATCHED MY WORST PAIN
DISAPPEARING IN THE REAR VIEW
THE FARTHER DOWN THE ROAD
I GOT FROM YOU
YOU'LL ALWAYS STAY IN MY REAR VIEW
YOU CAN TAKE IT TO THE BANK
I'M DONE WITH YOU
YOU CAN CASH THIS CHECK
YOU'RE STAYIN' IN THE REAR VIEW

What you did to me
No words could ever explain
Depression came first
And then world class pain
The hole kept getting' deeper
Till I saw no way out
Puttin' up with you
Is what misery's truly about

The day finally came
I could get up out of bed
Determined to live again
With you outa my head
It still isn't easy
But gets better day by day
With you in the rear view
Everything's better this way (CHORUS)

Sorry to hear about your pain Dave.

I'm so sick and tired of (redundant) love songs that I actually like your song.

I have a friend who was also undermedicated, but during a vasectomy - over 20 years ago. The memory of that day still makes him intensely angry - so I try not to bring up anything that could possibly remind him of it. He is a very mild mannered guy, but you can see his blood pressure rise by looking at his red face when he thinks about it. When this happens, I just tell him to think about all the fun he had after that operation, and how it was all worth it.

There must be a song in there somewhere also. Why don't you write it?

This is the tentative, not too well thought out melody. Still fuzzy from
months of pain meds. I have a lot of work to do on this!
